Oh my god, when will it end. Each day I check some video game blog, I see some announcement of new Little Big Planet Costumes. The DLC for this game is becoming one of the most frustrating things for me this year. The costumes look nice, but the designs for the sack boys are so cookie cutter it feels just like a cheap coat of paint slapped on.When the game came out, Nariko and Kratos were a nice touch. I went out and hunted down pre-order codes for both of them. I used to be somewhat of a collector so sometimes when I see something interesting or neat, I feel the need to get them. Since the release, they've released so many different costume packs, I can't even begin to keep track of them. Not to mention that the costumes themselves run about a buck or two each.
For a game that prides itself so much on customization and freedom for the player, I see the costume packs as a huge set of shackles. I think it would have been awesome to create a costume maker program. Charge money for that. And then allow people to create their own costumes according to how they wanted their level to be themed. This would be better suited for their needs and keep from players having to wait for a costume that hasn't released yet. Better yet, players could share these costumes. Someone could allow a player of their creation to have the costume ready so when they run through their level they could tailor the experience a bit better. Let's say I wanted to make a windwaker level. I could make the crawfish shirt and let the player download it to run through the level. I realize this of course would bring up all sorts of copyright questions, but I don't think that's the reason why it's not an available feature.
Thanks for listening,
David
My PSN is down right now. Can someone help me find a list of LPB DLC packs there are and what else is planned?

LittleBigPlanet Sack in the Box Costume (free)
A community costume for SackBoy!
There is probably some more I missed, but it seems they are realeasing DLC every week for LBP.
I agree wth your idea about the costume maker. While making a level for the community to play you could also create a costume for that level that would fit the theme of the level, giving the players and the creater of the map more fun with the game, which is really what a game like this should be.
It was revealed early on that MM will be releasing one free outfit along with a paid outfit(s) every week. They even released the user created outfit from a contest they held for free. Hopefully they do more of these. Unfortunately the creation tools are limited cause of legal shit... but people have done some creative stuff with outfits using stickers and such.
Why are we beating up on sackboy? This is nowhere near as offensive as Namco Bandai or EA DLC. Did you know you can strait up buy in-game currency in the new Need for Speed?
See that's the thing I don't like about what EA is doing with that. They just want more money so they made that option available knowing people would buy currency in game instead of working for it, which is what games like those are meant for.
With LBP yes there would be copy right issues with any kind of costume/clothing creator which is why it most likely will never come. I also like how LBP is keeping on realeasing costumes to keep people playing it even more, just to add more onto a great game. They have little community events here in there so the community can have a say on what will be put into the game.
This might be me, but I think the design and look of the free costumes are better than the stuff they're charging for. It's probably because most of the paid for outfits are basically Sackboy characatures of other characters rather than new, fresh or hilarious designs.
I mean, I'd rather play as Astronaut Sackboy or a Turkey Head Sackboy than the bland Chimera Skull or Loco Roco Sackboy costumes. They just don't appeal to me much. Meh, I always play with only the Chinese Dragon Mask on anyway.
An online Sackboy costume editor would be neat, but as you've suggested it's most likely to do with legal issues. Heck, there are enough copyright breaches as it is with the Cool Levels sadly. But hey, even with a few basic outfits and stickers/decorations people have managed to create literally hundreds of costumes from famous well known characters. Here's a thread with a few.

So not all is lost. My only worry is if they start charging for more or stop releasing free costumes all together. I guess only time will tell.
Also, this talk of user created costumes reminded me of this video.

There is a MGS4 pack hopefully releasing soon.

It looks awesome.
As much as I love costumization too, it's not a very big deal on LBP. Most of the time you barely take a look at your guy. You just need it mostly to set it appart from you friend Sackboy. Plus, the one you get in the game kind of fill your need.
