Quick Thoughts Going Into March

February is over. How did it pass so fast? All the promises I made, how many were fulfilled? How many were left on the drawing board? There are so many but even more apologies. Getting hung up on those won't help. For those, I'll find a way to make things up to you. But as for now,

The future of gaming is in the hands of the community. A lot of creativity and untapped potential is floating around in the masses. There is too much opportunity and someone needs to take advantage of it.

Sakura's alternate outfit for SFIV not bad. I need a lot more outfits though. One per character is crap.

The tag line for the DSi is "What will you and i do?" Seriously? I've talked myself out of a DSi but I'm sure as soon as I see one and hold it in my hands my opinions will start to change.

What is the point of time limits in fighting games? I understand in the case of arcades where you want to matches to move quickly so you can get other games played and money made. But is there really any reason other than that?

I went to see a counselor this week about going back to school. She asked me about why I left school last time. I told her I started doing a video game show and website. So she looked at me seriously and asked, "Do you have a problem with addiction?" I replied to what? Drugs? It turned out she meant video games.

I've always been kind of against advertising. I know that's how the world works, but I think it's a very questionable line to walk and there have been all sorts of problems when it comes to websites and how they advertising. Whether or not the reviews get special treatment because of advertising agreements and such. How would you get around this?

We'll see you in March,
David

It's Dinner Time

It's been a month to the day since our last DinnerTime Podcast. Man, how time flies.

Brad and I sat down to have dinner and talk about Yakuza, Braid, and Valkyria Chronicles. Becareful of spoilers.

Today February 27th

While not exactly video game related, I did feel this was worth mentioning. Happy Birthday to the man they call Jayne. Adam Baldwin turns 47 today. Baldwin played Jayne Cobb in the show Firefly the untrustworthy Mercenary who you couldn't help but love. As a big fan of the show and his excellent portrayal of the character, here's to remembering the good times.

Thanks for sending this one in BrainCleaner,
David

Send me birthdays, preferably video game.

A happy day for Japan. A sad day for Brad.

And every day until the announcement of a Yakuza 3 release in North America will be sadder. I wish the game the best though. For Sega and for the franchise I really do hope it sells amazingly well. Who knows... if the game is big enough of a smash hit over in Japan, then maybe Sega will have faith in a NA release.

It took 2 years for Sega to release Yakuza 2 over here and the audio wasn't even localized. Sadly I feel the release of that game was a test to see if we were going to get Yakuza 3. They gave us one chance. And we blew it. They gave us a second chance, and we blew that one too. It's not completely Sega's fault.

But let's be positive. The date is February 26, 2009. Let's start the timer. And wait...

This is Why I Loved GTA IV

While listening to last weeks episode of "Idle Thumbs", I was intrigued to hear them mention a youtube compilation video known as "GTA4 Baddassery Vol. 2". Their description of the video sounded awesome so I went ahead and watched it and was quite surprised by just how funny and amazing it was. I won't waste time describing it but I recommend everyone watch it.

PSP is back baby!!

This is quite possibly the most well made trailer ever.

Best Week of My Life?

This week has been one of the craziest in my life. Since Sunday morning when I woke up, I've gotten about 11 hours of sleep. I beat Valkyria Chronicles, added it to my top five games of all time. Was contacted by a former love interest which hadn't spoken to me in two years. Found out Braid was on sale for 800 Points (5 Bucks off). Bought that and beat it last night. Finally, something else personally happened which I can't really share with you guys, sorry. All of this and I'm just about to go into work on Wednesday.

I have so much to show you guys and write about from the games this week. I don't even have the time to put them down on paper right now. I have to be going, but I can't wait to be back.

See you soon,
David

It's On? Actually It's Over.

I'm not sure if rumors were true. I was hearing throughout my final chapter. Travis Beat it. He's trying to call you. Sorry Travis. I don't have my phone right now. It got turned off. I wouldn't have picked up any ways. I was on mission. A mission to save my country. And I did. Approximately 12:47 PM February 23rd I finished Valkyria Chronicles. When I started, I was on Chapter 10 at around 2:30 PM February 22. Took me all Sunday and all of Monday morning.

A lot is going on in my mind. The game was extremely powerful. There were points in the game where I went speechless for more than an hour. Please DO NOT spoil it for anyone. I have a lot to think about. I have to analyze the experience I went through and see where on my Top 5 games of all time Valkyria Chronicles is going to end up.

One way or another, the challenge is over. Brad did the perfect thing playing us off of each other. He knew my personality, that I couldn't back down from the challenge. He set us up and Nick took the bait. His comments led everything into a downward spiral that now only needs a conclusion. So who is it? I'm waiting to hear from you Travis. I'm waiting to either congratulate you or boast in my victory.

Have I Defeated a God? Or have my Dreams just slipped through my fingers?

Community Blog - daikenjo: What makes a great FPS?

This will start as a weekly feature, and might become something more frequent provided that we get enough good stuff in the forums. Keep in mind that I will also be posting thread responses if they seem to fit the post. I will be featuring interesting discussions, impressions, reviews, or whatever as long as it's related to the world of video games. If you want to be featured, join the forums and post your thoughts!

I chose daikenjo's post this week because it was relevant to the times as Killzone 2 will be coming out soon, and because it received some good responses.

What makes a great FPS?

"I was just wondering since FEAR 2 and Killzone 2 are going to be the 2 biggest shooters this month. I never fully got used to console controls for fps games (i probably just need to play more), so i haven't played much at all. I'm more of an rpg/adventure gamer, but i'm trying to get into shooters and just wanted your opinions.

So..yes, what make up a great FPS? is it solid and intuitive controls, or is it innovation? I ask this because a lot of reviews say that KZ2, while it looks amazing, doesn't bring anything "new" to the table. I don't really know what "new" things they may have expected. can anyone enlighten me? do they mean along the lines or the slow-mo option in FEAR, or the limb-cutting aspect of Dead Space?

It also seems to me that this is a genre that pays more attention to realistic graphics than nearly any other, and is a heavy factor in the quality of a game for its immersive-ness. If a FPS had the graphics of say, Tomb Raider (which is a great platforming game, and looks great for its genre), I believe would get a lot of criticism. People i know who play a lot of FPS tend to compare graphics a LOT, and i don't think it's necessarily because they're "graphics whores", but because it's actually necessary in this genre. Do you think that's true, or do you think a great storyline and solid controls are enough make up for lackluster graphics?

I've heard mixed things about the storyline, whether it's very important or not to the overall quality of the game. Do you mainly play for the story? Or does the online and co-op make the game for you?

Sorry if my questions are stupid, FPS is a new genre for me. Just want your thoughts :]
"

lordhumungus

"I like a realistic view in my FPS games. I wan't to atleast see the charactors feet. I remember I shat bricks when Halo 2 came out. I wish the devs would realize that your arms can he held farther away from your face than nine inches. "

evilplans
"why would you even want to see their feet.
when devs put legs in an FPS it usually looks stiff and like cardboard.
i feel like a lot of FPS games without the feet or legs in view, are just better.

i'm a weapon/gun detail whore.
nice smooth controls.
explosive environment.
cool stuff. "

Darknezz
"Balance, a good premise, a story, groundbreaking weapons (Zero-Point Energy Field Manipulator, anyone?), the feeling that you're just one soldier among many (of course, this depends on the story; Maybe you're a one-man-army super mutant, or something like that). I could list more, if I cared enough, but the above will never happen. We're just gonna see more "OMG SPACE MARINE ONE TWO FOUR GO!"

arrow91

"As long as the game play is good, story can be let loose, IMO.

The things that matter:
-Graphics. If they're not good, they can't be ugly. I've seen some games like some game with "Owl" (a Snake/Fisher copycat) and some Rambo-like guy. That game was UGLY. So in conclusion, the graphics must be bearable.
-Replay value. If it isn't worth playing over again, it probably won't matter much if you miss playing it once.
-Multiplayer PLUS (not or) with all of the above.

BrainCleaner
"story and location.

i want a reason to go around this corner, not just cos there's a guy there to shoot. So story is a big part for me. I love the 1st assault on the hollow in GoW2, when even tho' you are DELTA SQUAD, you still felt like you were working with other squads and gears to get stuff done!

Location. I like places to 'feel' alive. If i'm fighting a bunch of bastards in a school, or factory, or on a space ship, that place should BE what its is or was ment to BE. It may sound odd, but i like to look a round and see a place as what it was ment to be not just "this-is-here-as-an-obstacle-for-you-to-avoid-and- this-is-here -for-event-123-to- happen!" stuff.
As I said above there, story is the bonus."

Xalgar

"I like games where when you zoom in with a sniper rifle, your movement is limited. Yeah, screw you Halo."

skimers
"Besides the graphics, controls, and replayability, I enjoy the immersion that games like L4D or Half-Life gives. I like to be thrown into unique worlds that is not always about shooting but enjoying the scenery and atmosphere as you go through the game."

bigboss815
"Innovation, Tight controls, atmosphere, immersion, excellent soundtrack, good production values, creative story. Many things go into a good FPS game."

Wednesday_R

"I guess I'm a lover of spectacle because I loved Black.
Those gruelingly long, mid-combat reloads were totally forgiven by being so shiny and badass looking."

Please try to write to the best of your ability as there are plenty of eyes on this blog. So simple punctuation is appreciated. Yes I know... kettle black, glass house, etc.

Rock Band Japan Part VI

Back around June of last year, there was announcement that Rock Band was going to be localized for the Land of the Rising Sun. Being a huge fan of Japanese Music, I started writing about bands that I would like to see on the game. One of my problems with games like Rock Band/Guitar Hero is that the music has to appeal to you for you to really enjoy it. I had been out of American Music for so long that I really didn't know who any of the bands were. We haven't heard anything about the project since then, so I'm a little worried. Maybe Harmonix and Q Entertainment realized that a multiplayer game with big bulky instruments wouldn't work in the small living spaces of Japan. In case the project is still in works, here's a post about a band I would love to see in the game.

The band was originally formed in high school with six members but as time moved on and interests changed they lost members and gained others. Finally around college time, they solidified into the three piece rock group known as Chatmonchy.

The first time I heard this band was when I watched the PV for Shangri-la I was immediately hooked as the upbeat bouncy song started off with Bassist Fukuoka Akiko and her hopping around on one leg. Her energy is unmatched and I'm always looking to see what she's doing in the videos or on stage. I've heard complaints about the band sounding annoying due to Hashimoto Eriko's nasally voice, but that's the something that you can't escape in Japanese music. I actually really like that quality and I think it's just something that you just get used to honestly.

I have to say two things. One, I like this band because of it's simple complexity. I think a lot of bands try to do too much and smush everything into their songs and it's hard to listen to. Others are too simple that I can't really grasp onto anything and it becomes kinda boring. The middle ground is what I find about this band and also the drummer Takahashi Kumiko. The second thing I wanted to say was that Takahashi Kumiko is one of my favorite drummers. While I can't say that I am greatest dummer myself or say that she is among the elite in the world, for the same reason I love the band, I love Takahashi Kumiko and her drumming. It's more of being skillful at knowing who you are and what fits your type of music. If I could one day be on the same level as her, then I would have accomplished everything I wanted out of the drums.

Chatmonchy is one of the reasons why I prefer Japanese rock over American music. Every person in this band has their part and they play their pieces perfectly. I feel that it transcends just a music rock band. That is why I chose their newest song to be on Rock Band Japan. Please listen and try to envision what kind of emotion or feelings are being conveyed through the music and imagery. Try to get over the fact that you're not Skyliner and you can't understand the words. Focus more on how the vocals are used, how her voice builds during the chorus. Why and what is she calling out? Also listen to how the back up vocals are used.

Chatmonchy - Last Love Letter

Now, you've heard the music, here are the lyrics. If even one person heard what I did and understood why I listen to Japanese music, then I feel satisfied with my post.

If you liked the song, here is a Live Version (Please Watch In High Quality)
Sometimes you can find out more about the personality of a band by seeing them play live.

Also here is the link to the last Rock Band Japan post I wrote. You can also click on the Labels link the the bottom of this post to bring up all of them.

Brad Issues a Challenge: Finish the Fight!

That's right goddammit. Valkyria Chronicles is the 4pp Game of the Year 2008 and I'm the only one who has beaten it. I can't ever talk about the story in this game at length because many of the plot twists have not yet been reached by my fellow colleagues. I was sad to see David not mention it in his last video blog either. This is a challenge to Travis, David, and Nick to see who can finish the game. What are the stakes? Pride? I don't know. If they want to race, then they can, but Travis has the big lead.

Go!

Going Back To My Roots

When I first heard about Retro Game Challenge, I wasn’t quite sure what to think. It sounded kind of like a WarioWare rip off, so it was on the quick to dismiss list. Take a bunch of older outdated “Games” from the 1980s and slap them into a collection. Put some “Challenges” in to give it substance. Slap “Retro” on the cover of the box and that was the basic gist of it right? Well, there’s actually a lot more behind this game then one would think.

When you first hear the list of classic games, you’ll be surprised. There is a high probably that you haven’t heard of any of these games. Haggleman? Cosmic Gate? Rally King? Star Prince? Guadia Quest? The collection is from games released in the 1980’s and all for the Famicom. I had never heard of any of these games before, but I’m sure I had played games similar to them. Again I was quick to dismiss this game.

Before you go and do the same, let me start with the story. Yep, there is a story, one full of charm and youthful adventure that it brings me back to the days of my childhood and let’s me relive those memories. It is that powerful of a feeling. Other than that surprise, it’s also probably what is keeping me most interested in the game. If you’re not familiar with the Japanese TV Show Game Center CX, Retro Game Challenge is based off of that show and its’ host character, Japanese comedian Shinya Arino. Shinya-san basically goes back and plays games from the past generation, most of them the Famicom and most of them ranging higher on the difficult level. The show revolves around him going through the growing pains of learning to controls, deciphering the ancient graphics, and wading through the learning process in those older games, all while also taking a walk down memory lane.

How does this tie into the DS game? The Evil Arino, who is a Robot/Computer Program has turned you into a kid. You’re 12 years old again back in the past. You’re at the forefront as these new games are released and you’re forced to complete the task he sets before you or you won’t be able to grown up again. You run into Arino in the past as kid and he agrees to help you complete the challenges set forth by his grown up self, also he’s the one with all the games and money so you kid of just bum off him. The challenges range from scoring a certain amount of points to beating through a certain level without dying. While it’s just fun to go back and play through these games, which play surprisingly well for their age, it’s really the feel and atmosphere of being a kid and playing these games again that really sets this title apart. While I can see that this experience is lost on some, I can be pretty confident that most people who grew up at my age with a Nintendo and a friend will appreciate the finer points of this game.

So imagine you and your best friend just got the newest copy of Cosmic Gate in for your Family Computer Entertainment System. Your friend insists that you go first as you’re always better at these types of games. You begin. You’re racing through space all the stars are behind you. Everything is a dream come true but then here comes this massive wave of alien invaders flying at you and with one goal, to destroy you. You take down a couple of the ships but then you’re cornered. Somehow you survive the attack, and your co-pilot shares in your excitement, HOW DID YOU DO THAT? But there’s no time to rejoice, you’ve lost yourself in an asteroid field. You see the Weapon Upgrade but it is floating by behind two huge chunks of rock. You try desperately to find a way to maneuver in between the two masses but alas, it’s too late as you see it float by your partner shares in your disappointment. There’s only one way we’re going to make it out alive, we must activate the COSMIC GATE. But how exactly do we do that? There’s a knock at the door. Mom asks if you guys are hungry and want some snacks. You take this opportunity to read up on the cosmic gate in the newest Game Fan magazine.

That’s the feeling I get when playing this game. I used to walk home from Elementary school with my best friend David Kiehnhoff. We’d spend the afternoon discussing game theory over milk and cookies his mom just baked. We would take turns playing video games. He’d handle the parts that I couldn’t do and vice verse. Until it was time for me to go home, we’d be lost in our imagination. It’s something that been buried away for the last fifteen years behind work, school and relationships but thanks to this game, it’s finally had a chance to be reawakened.

BEAT CRUSADERS X LITTLE BIG PLANET

The Beat Crusaders are known for not showing their faces by wearing dot matrix masks of themselves. Being a fan of their music I was surprised and excited to see them doing a cross over promotion with Little Big Planet. As you can see, they've still got the masks.

They also did the opening for Bleach called Tonight, Tonight, Tonight and the opening for Beck called Hit in the USA.

Thought From the Day of Noby

The GameStop is taking reserves on DSi. Is anyone going to pick one up?

Loco Roco 2, a lot like Loco Roco.

NOBY NOBY NOBY, NOBY NOBY NOBY, NOBY NOBY NOBY BOY!!

It's disturbing how many guys do NOT wash their hands after going to the bathroom.

I'm thinking about opening a Host Club.

People asking about the Mod Chip for the Xbox 360. I'm not sure what's going on right now.

So, I'm done with my game buying for February. Start saving for March.

SXSW is coming up soon, anyone going? How about to SXSW Screen Burn?

That's all for now,
David

Revival Club Podcast # 2: Splinter Cell Double Agent

We finally recorded the first revival club podcast last night and it should be up in the next 24 hours on itunes. Thanks to everyone who showed up and to everyone who left their reviews and suggestions in the forum. It was a little bit of a rough start and the format was a little all over the place but its gonna take a few shows before we finally settle on a routine for this show. For what it was worth, it was a lot of interesting conversations and i'm happy to have the first one under our belt. So that leaves the next show... since we didn't get to record until mid February, we decided on a short/sweet game that would be relatively easy to finish and talk about before the end of February. We decided on "Splinter Cell: Double Agent" for a number of reasons but most importantly, it is accessible and cheap so get out there and pick up a copy! Play the game and send me any thoughts or opinions to:

Nickhenderson@4playerpodcast.com

or

post your thoughts about the game in this new forum thread: Official "Splinter Cell: Double Agent" Thread

Double Agent was the most recent Splinter Cell game in the series and introduced a number of new gameplay mechanics to the series. Many regard this series as being superior to Metal Gear Solid in terms of stealth so it should be interesting. We picked Double Agent because it was the most recent but also one of the least praised despite its obvious attempts at doing something different.

We should be recording this show in the last few days of February or the first week of March.

Thanks,
Nick

Oh! I get it now.

4PP Video Blog - Juan & Street Fighter IV

Juan's been busy with his new job. But he wasn't so busy that he couldn't stop by and pick up Street Fighter IV.

Dead Space for the Wii? Approved

Dead Space was my "Game of the Year 2008" and was by far one of the most original horror games in years. It was ambitious in the fact that it tried so many new things in regards to it's mechanics and overall game design. Games like "Alone in the Dark" tried equally as hard to do something new but ultimately fell short. The game shined from a technical standpoint as well so you can imagine my surprise when EA announced "Dead Space" for the Wii. While I was orininally skeptical, I am now excited because it seems that I will have a chance to delve deeper into the Dead Space lore in a way that could tide me over until the inevitable, next gen sequel.

EA has officially announced "Dead Space: Extraction", a prequel to the original game that will be coming exclusively to the Wii this fall. Aside from new story elements and the inclusion of "Wii Motion Plus", there are few details worth mentioning. I anticipate picking this game up day and date with release. Until then, check out the trailer below:

Tomorrow...HUGE!!!!

So Good Thing or Bad Thing?

Brad,

You're a very hard person to read at times. Sometimes I'll call you with news that I think you'll be excited about, but you aren't. Other times the smallest thing we talk about for hours. I'm not sure.

But I do feel like this is news worthy so....

Thanks gray_snake for emailing me and letting me know that Ryū ga Gotoku 3 (Yakuza 3 for PS3) will be getting a demo tomorrow on the Japanese Store. (Credit: vg247.com)

For those who are new to the blog we've been really supportive of mostly anything Sega. Valkyria Chronicles won Game of the Year from us for 2008. They are working with new developers like Plantinum Games on projects such as Bayonetta and MadWorld. And of course, they're always still putting out "high quality" Sonic titles.

Their biggest release of the year, however, has a chance that it won't even make it outside of Japan. It's a game that we've been really trying to push community support in an effort to let Sega know that there are people who want this game and they should take the time to bring it here.

Brad's been vocal about the OnlinePetition. Here's your chance to help out.

David

Chun-Li Got Hosed

Remember when they first announced Street Fighter IV. It had the cover with Chun-Li in the center and with Ken and Ryu squaring off beneath her. Then there were the other supporting characters in the background off colored. God I loved that cover. The cover that came out yesterday is an abomination compared to that one. You know the one, where it looks like Ken and Ryu are about to makeout. Yeah, sucks. What is worse is the spine, the street fighter logo is tiny. Why would they stack the two words on top of each other making them incredibly hard to read?

But back to more important things. Chun-Li getting screwed out of the cover. Why? Is it cause it's a man's world and women can't get the cover of a video game or magazine unless they're half naked? They can't be a powerful self sufficent character able to gather their own berries and hunt their own prey? Nah, that's probably not what this cover was about. I'm just annoyed by the crappy cover, so.....

I've been browsing around some sites looking for a cover that could print out and use as my cover.

Here's the one I chose for PS3. (By zero2000 of vgboxart.com)

And this one for XB360. (By Saint of vgboxart.com)
If you guys have any other suggestions, please send them in.

Yeah. He's working on a Wii game.

So you may know him as some dude who used to work at Square-Enix. I know him as one of my favorite video game designers ever. You may know him as Yasumi Matsuno. I know him as Yazz. You may know him as that guy who worked on Final Fantasy 12. I know him as the guy who worked on these fantastic games:

Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen: Director, scenario and game design

Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together: Director, scenario and game design

Final Fantasy Tactics: Director, script and game design

Vagrant Story: Producer, director and battle design

Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Caliber: Script, scenario design

Final Fantasy Tactics Advance: Producer, original concept (note that there is nothing about direction, story, or scenario design)

Final Fantasy XII: Original concept, scenario plotter, and supervisor

So the last known game he was confirmed to work on was Final Fantasy 12. He left before the game was finished, which is probably why the story in FF12 felt very rushed towards the end of the game. Since then, Matsuno had fallen off them map. No one knew where he was, and awhile ago there were rumors he was working on a Wii game. Well, he is indeed working on a Wii game. Luckily, it's a game I'm excited about. The project he is on could have hardly been predicted, as it is not what you typically expect from the great Yazz.

Platinum Games developer, Atsushi Inaba (best known as former CEO of Clover Studios and for his work on Viewtiful Joe, Godhand, Okami, and the Phoenix Wright series) has hired the great Yasumi Matsuno to work on the story for the upcoming (and hopefully spiritual successor to Godhand) Wii title, MadWorld. (Source)

MadWorld....

Yeah, this game:

This is strage, yet refreshing news. I hope MadWorld is great, but more importantly I hope that Platinum Games lets him work on his own project. The true spiritual successor to Final Fantasy Tactics perhaps?

Thoughts?

From Around the Community

If you've been around chat for a while you'll know mod Corvus. He came in the limelight back when I was playing Majora's Mask and has been known to give me a hard time about playing games. I assure you viewers and chatters that we are good friends and have even talked about meeting up for Thanksgiving Dinner. Our Kid Link and Skull Kid friendship is a strong as ever.

As proof I have included a conversation we had last night, in the midst of my playing Metroid Prime. To Corvus I say, I am honored to be your favorite member and I will keep doing my best to make you proud. What are you doing for Spring Break?

In other news I am proud to display the draw for the Left 4 Dead Tourney. This was all orchestrated by some of our regular/long time chatters. I'll definitely be keeping an eye out to see how things develop. Our very own Travis Granger is competing as part of Team 1. We'll keep you guys posted on who moves on to the second round. It's even possible I could find some kind of prize for the winners of the tourney, provided it's not Travis. Actually, I'll announce that I'm putting out a Bounty for the Team who takes the so called "god" out.

Have fun,
David

Birthday Wishes - Tsuzura Saki

Today - February 17th - Tsuzura Saki from the Arcana Heart Series.

I've been trying to compile a list of video game birthday's for a while now. Each time I do, I end up losing the list or forgetting to add someone. So in a way to help put this together, I ask you the community to help out. If you feel like contributing, whenever there is a video game character's birthday coming up, send me an email at davidliao@4playerpodcast.com.

I'll add it to the list, make a blog post, and give you credit.

4pp Whispers

Nick, Travis, and everyone else missed the point of my whisper. People who are possibly interested in an upcomming "something" with 4pp should be working on their writing skills.

Imitation is the Sincerest Form of....

No one has made more of a mark on 4PP than Bradford Simons. His name is synonymous with success and he single handedly spread the word about us to millions in one moment of greatness. I'd like to take the time to remember what he has accomplished and how many he has inspired.

How did you do it Brad?
It really was a miracle.....
David

Nick Whispers...

Damn you Brad for starting these whisper posts...

but while I'm at it...

Brad should stop critiquing...

Travis should watch his language...

David should post about games...

Brad should stop critiquing people on their writing skills....

Incoming Sleeper - Destiny Links

This Namco developed DS game looks to be a PIRATE themed 4 player online action RPG in the vain of Phantasy Star Online or Diablo mixed with the combat of Secret of Mana. Looks pretty rad, and it scored a 34/40 in Japan's (in)famed Famitsu Weekly. I hope the game gets localized and released over here... but not before I find my DS.

Here is the trailer:

Thanks for the tip, Missy.

Hey, Remember Me?

Hey guys, I'm back after a kinda hiatus. Here are some random thoughts.

First off, Happy Birthday Ken Masters. If you don't know who I'm talking about, you should be shot.

Secondly, I've been playing Loco Roco 2. So here's a video of a Chinese Girl covering the Loco Roco Theme. Hooray!

I was looking over the cast of the Chun-Li movie, TABOO from the Black-eyed Peas apparently has an acting role in the film. Now I know it's going to be horrible.

You're probably asking yourself, Who the fuck is TABOO? The creepy long haired dude.

Madworld, I don't know what to think about this game now.

I'll go more in depth on the show tomorrow night. 7PM Central, 8PM 4PP. Also the Revival Club will be recorded tomorrow night.

Thanks,
David

Time to do your part.

Sega is hurting guys. If you've been reading the news, you've probably been hearing some pretty horrible things Sega is going through right now. They are killing off most of their arcade business in Japan and claimed they will be killing game projects as well. The first announced is the cancellation of the Obsidian developed Aliens RPG. I'm sure this won't be the last of the bad news we will hear about in the coming weeks from Sega.

Yakuza 1 sold like shit over here. Yakuza 2 sold even worse. That and Sega would have to spend a fortune localizing Yakuza 3.

So the horrible reality is that there is no financially viable reason for Sega to localize Yakuza 3. At least they don't think so. We need to change their minds.

Ok, normally I hate these things. But fuck it, we have to do something. It has just over 500 signatures, and now it's time to hit 10,000. I'm not sure I would have worded the petition the way this person did, but numbers are all that matters. Every single person who reads this blog needs to sign this. Every single person who watches the broadcast needs to sign this. This is my new project. I will exploit any attention we have ever gotten to achieve this goal. I want this. And I want you to want this.

http://www.petitiononline.com/yakuza/petition.html

No place on the internet is safe. You must help me.
If you see a spot that will let you enter text, a link to this petition better be the first thing you type. If you are a part of any message board out there, I want this petition as your signature. If you know people out there who love games, it is your obligation to inform them on this series. Sit their asses down and show them this trailer first.

Use this trailer to get them interested, and then explain to them that the rest of the game is a cross between GTA, Shenmue, beat-em-ups, and Japanese RPGs. Then show them the rest of the trailers. Then you and that person click the link below and both buy copies of Yakuza 2.

F.E.A.R. 2 Tentative Broadcast Schedule

So tomorrow is the big day. I will be once again delving into the Monolith Universe for what is sure to be a trippy and terrifying experience. Hopefully, screams and laughs will occur often. As usual, I will be playing the game from beginning to end over a several day period. So here is my expected broadcast schedule. I am not sure how long the game is so I am basing this off of previous experience with Monolith games and other horror titles I have played in the past. The first night will be the shortest night for me with the subsequent nights significantly longer. This is how I anticipate it panning out:

02.11.2009 (Wednesday): 9:45 pm - 12:30 am (central time)

02.12.2009 (Thursday): 9:45 pm - 2:00 am (central time)

02.13.2009 (Friday): 7:00 pm - Whenever I finish

If I need to, I will use Saturday evening to finish the game off if it turns out to be longer than expected. With that said, I hope to see everyone there tomorrow. It should be fun.

Thanks,
Nick

ARGH!!! Why can't they take everything inside of battles in Final Fantasy X2 and insert it into a better game.

Seriously!!! I was going to replay this game, and then I realized how much I HATED everything outside of battles in this game. The shit you have to do to get some dress spheres in this game!!! I'll never fucking get that Gambler Sphere ever again!!! FUCK THAT! RANDOM ASS PIECE OF SHIT MINI GAME!!!

These videos are totally worth your time.

HOLY SHIT WHY DON'T WE EVER GET INTERNATIONAL VERSIONS LOCALIZED. I'VE NEVER SEEN THESE JOBS BEFORE. ARE THOSE SUPER ROBOT SCHOOL GIRLS???? I'M PISSED!

Last Day At Ikkicon

All this Japan Culture made me wish I was in Japan. The only way I could think of getting rid of this feeling was to shoot a Pocky Commercial.

Thanks Lil Mashu for going along with this.

What Kind of a Last Name is Munn Anyways?

Any of you guys Olivia Munn fans? Me? Not really. Some would call her attractive. I'm not going to diss her or anything. I'm just a person who very judgmental about girls and games. I love women and I love games. But it's a very delicate balance when you try to put the two together. It's like chocolate and peanut butter. Each on it's own delicious. But when you put them together, it's not a very good....wait, bad example.

Well, you know what I mean. Sometimes I question women in games sometimes because it's unclear whether they are there because they are attractive or because they know their shit. But with Olivia Munn videos like these, it make me lean towards the former rather than the latter.

Dude, I dance better than her, Ask Nick.

Right.....

OK, SERIOUSLY???

This is why I don't watch G4,
David
