First off, thank you so much for the AMAZING response to the Chip In. We're really overwhelmed by everyone who contributed and I'm going through each of the emails we received and marking down suggestions made. I am currently trying to plan out a schedule to which we will be able to eat at the restaurants suggested.
Other than that, everything for E3 is pretty set. We'll be leaving Austin tomorrow bright and early at 6 am. We arrive in LA at 9 am and have basically an hour to try to make it to the Microsoft Media Briefing. Cross your butts ladies and gentlemen.
The rest of the first day will be used for getting set up and making plans for the next day. I have a meeting with Ubisoft at 4pm in the afternoon but after that, we are basically free.
Is there anyone in the Los Angeles area that would be interested in meeting up for dinner, maybe do a dinner time podcast? I know Davethezombie and Corvus are in the area, is there anyone else and where would be a good meeting place for dinner around maybe 7PM?
Let us know,
David

Fuck you Square Enix. Just give up on your sad pathetic attempts to make a game for a "Western" audience, and start making quality "Japanese" games again. And please don't ruin a great franchise in the process.
And fuck Final Fantasy 13. It's not enough. You are fucking up way to much to let that one game wash you of your sins.
David, Nick, and I are going to the Electronic Entertainment Expo next week (June 1 - June 5th)! We will be broadcasting nightly to bring you our thoughts and opinions on the games we will see and play. But this trip is expensive! We have set up a 'Chip In' for anyone who wants to help out with the expenses.
So what do you get out of it? Well, besides the soft and fuzzies of knowing we will be able to pay our rent next month, I will be playing a particular game this weekend. What game?
This one should be interesting. It's a survival horror for the PS3. Nick played this last year, but I didn't watch too much of it. So the scares should still be ripe.
The festivities start at 8pm central time, Friday, May 29.
In an effort of full disclosure, I feel I should let you in on all of our costs. Your contributions will go towards helping the three of us with the following expenses:
Plane Tickets ($189 each) Rental Car ($120+) Parking (about 15 bucks a day) Food (many burgers)
I've got a long drive ahead of me. About 3 hours to Dallas for A-kon. If anyone of you are going to be there, leave a comment. I'll be there this afternon and probably part of tomorrow.
In an industry that relies so heavily on the creativity of its pioneers, Sony’s “Team Ico” shines as one of the best. With only two projects under their belt, this team has captured the imagination of gamers in such a profound way, which has made their third project one of the most anticipated announcements in recent years. Headed by Fumita Ueda and named after their first PS2 title, Ico, the team has maintained their success by developing games with a consistent art style and similar themes that flow throughout. Their first game titled “Ico” centered on a young boy, imprisoned in a giant castle with a mysterious princess. The gameplay was primarily focused on platforming and puzzle solving that forced players to protect, guide, and use the princess in various ways. The spiritual follow up, “Shadow of the Colossus” was the story of a young boy traveling a vast land to kill a series of giant rock beings known as Colossi in order to bring the woman he loves back to life. Both games shared the same aesthetic and overall design which suggested that the team had created their own unique universe that all of their games were destined to share. While each game had it’s own unique concept and over-arching goal, they both managed to create a deep-rooted attachment to the character and their respective partners (Princess Yorda/ Agro the Horse) despite the game’s lack of spoken dialogue. Through a beautiful blend of art design, ambient music, adult themes, and ingenious game design, Team Ico has mastered the ability of creating games that transcend interactive entertainment to become experiences that most summer blockbusters only dream of.
Following the critical success of Shadow of the Colossus, the industry quickly began to buzz about what the team would do next. With the imminent release of the Playstation 3, journalists speculated that the team’s next project would make its debut on the next gen console. In January of 2008, the games existence was confirmed with the release of a single piece of concept art (Shown above) that really confirmed nothing except that the game would share the same aesthetic as it’s two predecessors. The game was indeed destined for release on the Playstation 3 but details as to the games concept and gameplay were nonexistent. The rumored official announcement was expected at a number of big gaming conferences but each time, the project was nowhere to be found. Finally, in May of 2009, the proof of concept trailer, showing early footage of the game was leaked onto the internet and the speculation has run wild. With an official announcement expected at E3, all we can do is watch the trailer repeatedly and make vague guesses as to what the game might have in store for us.
The leaked trailer opens with a familiar scene, a detailed look at the concept shot that was released in early 2008 depicting a large chain secured in a hole. Until now, the significance of the chain has been a mystery. Only moments into the trailer, the mystery is solved, the chain begins to move and it is quickly apparent that a large creature is tethered by the chain and is eager to escape. A young boy who looks very similar to the boy in Ico is depicted running down a large stone corridor as the monster breaks free and gives chase, incapacitating an unexpecting guard in the process. As the boy reaches the end of the line and almost takes a plunge off a cliff, the monster enters the sunlight and makes it’s debut. Surprisingly, the creature is a rather adorable griffin with cat-like features and the beak and feet of a bird. The creature pulls the boy to safety and places him on his head, suggesting a close bond that will be forged between the two characters throughout the game. The scene is rather touching and quickly sets the tone for the games concept. The boy must work closely with this giant to solve puzzles and navigate the world. Various shots depict the boy utilizing the creature by throwing items into his mouth or using his size to reach new areas via climbing or swimming. As interesting a concept as this is, the true nature of the relationship between the two characters has probably yet to be revealed. By looking closely, you may notice arrows stuck in the creatures back suggesting that combat may play a more prominent role in this game than in Ico. Several shots depict the duo entering into different themed environments, possibly suggesting a “Zelda-esque” temple structure to the game. Team Ico’s reputation ensures that these rather simple concepts will become more complex as the game proceeds.
Each game from this team has given the player a strong motivation throughout the game. In “Ico”, it was a boy’s desperation following his banishment and entrapment in a dangerous castle. In Shadow, it was a boy’s refusal to accept the death of the woman he loved. The motivation in this new project is still a mystery but it appears as though the boy may have broken some sort of law by attempting to release the creature from its captivity and is forced to aid in it’s escape. Could this be a story of a boy who feels trapped and attempts to free a creature that he feels he shares much in common with? Could this game somehow tie the three stories together? There are still many questions left unanswered. We can only hope that “Team Ico” will provide some answers and perhaps even an official title during the first week of June at E3 2009.
I don't really know how to set this clip up. I've run into Gus a few times in Austin and at PAX last year. I've heard the RoosterTeeth guys speak a few times, at Akon a few years back, also at PAX last year. They always seem to come up with something funny. Creatively funny.
My review for Bionic Commando for the Xbox 360 has been posted over at HookedGamers.com. If you're wanting to read what I thought about it, here is the link.
Not sure if any of the major blogs picked up on this yet, thanks Michael M. for sending thing in (Forgot to leave chat name?).
Idolm@sters is coming to the DS in the form of Idolm@sters: Dreary Stars. I'm not sure how I feel about this one. I'm a little worried about the touch screen and with past unappropriate touching games I hope Namco-Bandai will stay away from the SNK path. But of course that doesn't even matter because we'll never see it here. And also cause of the language barrier.
In my quest to ease the pains of having finished Battlestar Galactica, I purchased Project Sylpheed to quench my thirst for space combat. Well... sadly the game did none of that; but I did notice something interesting on the cover. Something oddly familiar. Can you see it?
Back at the beginning of this year, I gave Travis, Brad, and Nick copies of Valkyria Chronicles for Christmas. Does anyone know if a highlight of that was made? If so, can someone find the link?
Why am I looking for this game? I just finished a really great show and now I'm sad and want more. I want a free roaming 3d space shooter -- a game that lets me feel as if I'm in a dogfight from Battlestar Galactica. They actually made a game in this genre based on the BSG IP, but it's based on the cheesy original show from the 70s.
Here is some battle footage from the newer show:
Check out these restrictions before you start spamming recommendations. Guidelines: 1. No big IP like Star Wars or Star Trek. A game like this will just pull me out of the fantasy I'm trying to construct in my head(pants).
2. Has to be on consoles. I need to be able to broadcast the game; so it needs to be on consoles.
3. No older than last console generation. I don't want it to looks like poo. Dreamcast may be acceptable as long as the game doesn't control like shit.
4. No rail shooters. I have to be able to fly around willy nilly. Meaning nothing like Star Fox.
5. No robot suits! If I wanted to play a mech game... I'd pop in my copy of ZoE 2.
Kind of like these games:
Freespace 2 (Volition - 1999)
Colony Wars (Psygnosis - 1997)
I realize this game might not exist based on my set of rules. Just give me your ideas as close to the set guidelines. BUT NO PC GAMES!
Even Kamiya is using quick time events (QTEs) these days. *sigh*
At least he is doing something different with them. If you look closely, you can see that the face button prompts also give the position on the face button diamond. This could possibly speed up reaction times with the QTEs and allow for more fluid sequences (and less failing).
With that said... this trailer is further proof that Kamiya is making the most insane video game ever to grace this industry. Bayonetta is still my #1 most anticipated of 2009.
Ok, so the shows. We haven't been able to post any of them since mypodcast.com is being a chatch. It's a good thing since we're working on being able to RRS them to iTunes ourselves. I'm still in the process about reading up on it and finally implementing it. What's making it more difficult is that we're trying to transfer it so everyone won't have to change their subscriptions.
If anyone has knowledge on how to do this, please contact me if you want to help.
By the people, for the people. Some very prolific members of our community are busy being awesome by making their own 4player spinoff podcast.
Hosted by Dafishies and Darkness, this show is about video games, things going on in the 4pp community, and of course... me. Let's be honest -- this show would suck if they didn't talk about me. But they do. So it's great. Dafishies may sound like he's just eleven, but don't insult him... he's actually 12. Download Episode 4
The latest episode also guest stars Blitzkey and Superfusion. They talk about what they've been playing, news, and about things going on over at JTV and in the forums.

I'm a little ashamed for not catching this earlier. I guess it's from my lack of pay attention or keeping up with podcats.
Ultimate Shooting Collection was released for Wii approximately in February. It includes three Milestone games....
Karous
Radirgy
Chaos Field
All of which I already own, but it would be nice to have them all for the Wii and use my Hori stick for them. Does anyone know if the ports are worth a damn. I'll buy it if they're good.
So I have a question to ask everyone. It may seem stupid and I should have better things to do -- but fuck you, mind your own business.
I own a PSP and a DS. I own lots of games for these systems. Both are also modded. I've decided that I do want to play a traditional JRPG on the go. So here is the problem.
Which do I choose?
1. An old RPG that I have played through (and enjoyed) before. Something I know is great -- but a game I have not played in ages. I know I will not be let down by the experience, and there could be a chance I will appreciate the game even more, but I worry of the feeling it is a waste of time. Also, there is the possibility that I may come to realize much of my love for the particular game is soaked in nostalgia.
2. An old RPG that I have NOT played before, albeit one that is critically acclaimed. The real issue here is I may be choosing a game that "I had to be there" to enjoy -- a game potentially put up on a pedestal by some elses nostalgia. I could end up with a poorly translated story and a game with dated mechanics I'm not able to forgive.
3. A modern, and most likely, mediocre RPG. This would decidedly be the most "dangerous" choice, as it seems most games in this genre are not great until they have been out for a decade. My problem with choosing a game from this era is that it might further reinforce my belief that the JRPG genre is in the shitter this generation. Then again, fucking up with a choice from one of the other categories could be more troublesome, as an un-enjoyable experience there would probably convince me that the entire genre has always sucked.
4. Lumines. This choice is not supposed to be here, but fuck if I'm not a realist.
I know many who are reading this already have an answer they are working out in their head. Especially the nerd in the brown shirt. Yes, you. I must make it clear that your time and effort thinking of an answer has been a waste, as I never have time to play my handhelds.
Brad hates Tetris. I'm not particularly crazy about it one way or another.
But damn.. (Thanks Shane for the video)
Also, a David post wouldn't be complete without....
UTADA HIKARU worked with Nintendo back in 2006 on a special event to promote Tetris for the DS. She played a line of competitors schooling most of them. She started off shaky at the beginning but cleans up the rest of the way.
A trailer that claims to be Team Ico's next game leaked onto the internet today. The game was rumored to make it's big reveal at E3 this year so if this is Legitimate, don't expect it to stay up long. Make sure you catch it fast before it is pulled. You can catch it below:
-Nick
Hey guys, I'm testing out a new blogging service. I am posting this from my phone. If this works, expect me to use this service to "live blog" directly from the E3 show floor.
So I've spent the majority of the last few days making phone calls and emails to companies that will be at E3 this year. I'd have to say that is has been an extremely interesting and learning process.
First off, it's hard not to get discouraged. Being passed off to other PR people. Leaving tons of messages and not getting a return. Talking to very unhelpful Receptionists. It's all part of the gig. As much as I've hated it, theses are the hoops you have to jump through. It's like showing how much you'll go through to get what you want.
On that thought, it hasn't been completely empty. We have gotten a few appointments with some bigger companies. I'm waiting to hear back from a few others. I do get this little fish in the big ocean with all the other huge fish feeling. I mean there are companies out there that hire another company to pick up the phone and filter through all those calls. I had to call a PR company for them to get me in contact with the original company just to tell me no. It's a really funny situation. I know it's completely necessary, but from the outside looking in, its absurd.
On a high note, the woman I talked to from Square-Enix, Emi, totally cute. There was something about her voice when she was giving me the E3 run around, there was something special there. It's like she was doing it just for me. Some may be saying, "You only talked to her on the phone, how do you know?"
A.) Well, I heard her speaking Japanese to some people in the background while looking up information for me. She has the voice of an Angel.
B.) It's SQUARE FUCKING ENIX. Everything they do is gorgeous. I can only imagine how their staff is. Freaking soft featured afeminite looking guys. Cute pale skinned women.
I'm going to call again just so I can be denied again. For E3, not by her.
I guess that's it for all my stories today. I needed to let off a little frustration. So thanks for listening.
Accessories. They're all pieces of shit. The cost versus the mark up is something you'd never believe if you saw them. Add on sales is where a lot of these corporations make money and why they push people so hard to offer these things.
I've always been wary of what to buy and making sure I do some research before purchasing somewhat unnecessary items.
The above is what I am debating on right now. My Wii remotes have been looking somewhat drab and plain since I've gotten them. Those skins might just be exactly what I need to spruce things up a bit.
So remember when I wrote that angry blog post about poor MadWorld sales? No? How about now?
Well, I followed that up with a poll because I was curious about whom, out of our own community, actually bought the game. I was concerned about are the "hardcore" Wii owners and why they were not buying the game.
Here are the results: Did you buy MadWorld? 78 (8%) - Yes.
367 (37%) - No, and I have a Wii.
530 (54%) - No, I don't have a Wii.
The results surprised me to say the least. Only about 20% of the Wii owners who voted bought the game. Was I wrong to assume that we (our community) are the "hardcore"? I would have expected that number to be at least 50%. Do the Wii owners care to explain why they passed on the game? I'm more curious than anything. The game did get good reviews after all. We talked about it plenty and even played it on the feed the week it came out -- you guys were exposed to the game.
Next question: Why is it a bad idea to take a decent racing franchise and merge the vehicles with Walmart toy isle rejects?
April sales for ExciteBots: 13,000 (I didn't miss a zero).
If this game were to come out in 2009 (it wont), it would easily be my number 1 most anticipated game of the year. I LOVED the first game. Sure it had its flaws, most notably technical, but there is something to be said about the world Bioware has created.
Maybe it's the recent sci-fi high I've been on? Either way...
While going over the exhibitor list for E3 this year, I noticed that Blizzard wasn't on the list of attendees. I'm not sure if this is because they will be with Activision or if it is because they do Blizzcon every year but it got me into doing some research.
Blizzcon this year is August 21-22. Ironically, tickets go on sale today @ 9 AM Pacific for $125!!!
I was surprised that ticket prices were so expensive. That and also there is Direct TV pay-per-view coverage.
Maybe I am just underestimating Blizzards' drawing power. Warcraft, StarCraft, and Diablo. It's amazing that those three franchises can warrant such an event. I almost see it as stuck up. Why do I feel this way?
I realize and understand everything that Blizzard has done for the video game genre, but is this a case of PC love while I mostly play consoles?
So last month we decided to enter into the Fat Princess Beta. We got in and through facebook I was asked if it was alright to use the picture for Official Playstation Magazine.
They actually did use the picture so thanks for Rabbesking for bringing it to my attention and Sl4y4 for sending in the picture.
Which Month's magazine is it? I'm planning on buying an issue for collector's value.
Thanks,
David
PS - Also, look at the extremely cute girl with the hat and goggles on the bottom left. Be still my heart.
So next week comes a game I've been waiting on for a while now. Bionic Commando will be making a return on the official consoles. I'm sure to be picking up that on up, but the real question is whether or not I'll be trying Punch-Out!.
It was kind of a surprise that they announced the series for the Wii. Seeing as how the original was so fast paced and reaction based, it seems impossible to make a game like that using Wii Controls.
But then, everything becomes clear. This isn't THAT Punch-Out!. It's a game that has been created for the new generation. It will have familiar characters, familiar moves, familiar music. But it won't be what I'm hoping for.
So why am I still considering this game? Hope that it will suprise me. That there is something in these made for new gamer's games that will appeal to a long time "veteran." Maybe there's something new that will be discovered by this going back to basics.
Should I care about this Sacred 2 thing? We all know Diablo 2 is in my Top 5 games of all time -- and that my recent discovery of Soma Bringer has certainly been scratching that itch, but what about a good console loot game I could play on the feed?
The game has to have great loot though. I don't just mean "many different items" either. The loot has to have cool modifiers that really affect the player outside of simple damage and defense, and the system needs to have a rarity spectrum, as well as random modifiers.
The skills/class system also needs to be deep enough so that I can encounter the same class as myself and still see a difference in character setup.
Also, which console should I get it on if I did get it? I think I heard that the PS3 version is the lead console platform. Is this true?
Sorry, don't appreciate the Bana hate. I also think he had a lot of fun with his role in Star Trek. Bana is at the very least, a solid actor who takes some questionable roles. Check out his performances in these movies.
I can't help but feel a certain amount of pride. Asian Pride.
Not AZN Pride, the Asian one. While watching the new Star Trek movie and enjoying it, I was thoroughly surprised to see John Cho in the movie.
I was aware of the character Asian American character Hikaru Sulu, It never dawned on me they would have to cast him in the new movie as well.
I'm not very familiar with the original series, but I was shocked when about half way through the movie, it was he that saved the day. Without mentioning spoilers, he and a few group members are sent on a mission to disable something. In a fury of karate kicks and sword techniques, it is he, the Asian actor who defeats the bad guys.
John Cho, you've come a long way from being the MILF guy in American Pie and Harold Lee in Harold and Kumar. You're probably the most well known Asian actor in America right now, enjoy it buddy. You've earned it.
David
I would also I like to point out that the original Actor George Takei is Japanese American, while Cho is Korean-American. It's fine that they're changing it up. But since they not going for complete accuracy, I would like to throw my name in the ring. Should John Cho hold out for more money in the next movie, I am fully qualified and available to fit the stereotype even though I'm Chinese American.
In addition to all those who special women in our lives, let's not forget about one of the games we've still never officially gotten here. Some one help me find a way to play this translated rom not on my PC.
Oh yeah, Happy Mother's Day.
Has anyone seen the Star Trek movie? I'm probably going to go watch it tomorrow night, any good?
So here are my thoughts. If Ubisoft turns Splinter Cell, Prince of Persia, and now Beyond Good and Evil into Assassins Creed... what the fuck if a person who doesn't like Assassins Creed supposed to play?
*fart*
To be fair... this does get me a wee bit excited. The Beyond Good and Evil universe does have one thing that all those other Ubisoft games seem to lack: "Nonlameness".
As you may have noticed, I've been having troubles finding time to post recently. I don't know how to say this, but it's over for me. There is no turning back. I've opened a door and cannot find a way to close it. I could try to put the blame on someone else, but that would be foolish. It was my own fault for opening it in the first place and the fatal disease that I contracted was of my own accord.
It started out as just a little fun, I never meant for it to go as far as it has. But now it has sucked my life out and eventually will claim my soul. I am addicted to the Japanese TV Drama....
I tried so hard for years to avoid watching any. I barley made it past Attention Please. Nodame Cantabile was a difficult time for me. But now because of a recent Mei-chan no Shitsuji, I've lost.
I guess the third time was the charm. Now I am wrapped up in Atashinchi no Danshi and Hana Yori Dango. I have Hana Kimi downloading. I am currently looking for Celeb to Binbo Taro, and Nobuta wo Produce, Innocent Love, and Orange Days.
It's over for me guys. It was nice knowing you. But it will probably be a while before you see me again.
Sayonara... David
Mei-chan no Shitsuji (The One That Started It All)
Just kidding, "Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood" looks like it could deliver but I think it will definitely be overshadowed by the likes of Red Dead Redemption later this year.
I would just like to make a quick shout out to BRYN in the forums. He is the reason our forums are no longer bland, designing the complete layout himself. He has also put the banners on the News feed in our forums. Personally, have not spoken to him, but I would like to thank him for making these contributions to the forums. As we have all said before, we would be no where without our viewers, and it is the viewers like BRYN that help us move forward. Thank you BRYN for your hard work in improving our forum. Oh, and there is a competition he is holding in our forums also. Follow this link if you are interested.
1. The birth of second analogue stick came around with the original Playstation controller. Know why that works? It works because there are four shoulder buttons. This means players have quick access to 4 buttons without ever having to take their thumbs off the sticks. Therefore the player has plenty of control and options while moving both the character and camera. This is especially important for shooters.
The PSP only has two shoulder buttons. This is never good enough. Think about the original XBOX controller. That thing only had two shoulder buttons, and often relied on the frequent use of the clumsily placed white and black buttons. Needless to say, Microsoft recognized the stupidity of the button placement for their FPS heavy console when they decided to go with the 4 shoulder buttons on the XBOX 360 controller.
What does all this mean? Just adding another stick is not going to magically solve their control problems on a PSP. Two more shoulder buttons would need to be added in order to really emulate good console controls. And good luck fitting those in on a PSP. I doubt it would ever happen.
and more importantly....
2. I don't want the kind of games that NEED a second analogue stick on my PSP. Again... people are wanting the PSP to emulate the console control experience with the second nub. This is so shooters and 3d actions games can have quick camera control.
Bah! These are not the types of game I want to play on the go. Consoles are not doing 2d anymore. There are exceptions, but honestly, that ship has sailed. But the PSP is a great place to get away with these games, and look really beautiful in the process. Want that sprite based 2d sequel to Symphony of the Night? That would look GREAT on a PSP. 3d game experiences might look decent on the system, but I can never shake the feeling that I would rather be playing them on a console. Handhelds are better suited to 2d games, puzzle games, strategy games, and RPGs. And guess what? That's what the PSP already has. We just need more of them.
Really... people just need to quit acting like the problem with the PSP is the lack of a second nub. It is not going to solve the sole problem with the handheld. It's a great handheld as is. We just need more software support.
I'm not sure if I mentioned this, but I finished a review for Prinny about a month ago. I think I forgot to mention that it was posted. There's the link if you're interested in reading it.
So this is the Japanese cover of Super Robot Taisen OG Saga: Endless Frontier recently released here in the states. Although it's pretty tragic that they didn't put KOS MOS (who is in the game) on it, there is a lot of like about this cover. These women are proud of their bodies and they are not afraid to show it. I respect this decision.
And here is the North American cover. Something is missing.
Or covered up rather.
Lame.

DAMN YOU ATLUS AMERICA!!!! THEY WANT TO BE FREEEE!!!!
I got an email from someone who shall remain anonymous. It was titled, Swine Flu Origins. It was someone who I have a lot of trust in, so I took the time to click on it and read what it had to say.
I should have known better than to take that email seriously. This is the same person who once sent me an email explaining why one of our friends was "whipped" by his girlfriend and then included a picture of a woman's vagina with fake dracula's teeth inserted into them.
These are dark and desperate times. The "economy" is in the shitter. The country is in a state of panic because of the fear of a wide spread epidemic. But I can always count on family and friends to lighten the mood.
Thanks for the laugh,
David
If my plane goes down while headed to LA, tell them I was actually headed for Japan.
Append - Oh, I forgot to add. Today I got an email at work explaining that you cannot get Swine Flu from eating Pork Products. Nice to know.
So as far as I know, Klonoa is out on store shelves already. It's priced at 29.99 for the Wii. I was seriously debating picking up this game and playing it. I played it at TGS and was fairly unimpressed. I didn't have much time with it being that there was a line, but so I tried it again for the PSX last month, it's a remake of the original. Still, I don't get why it's so sought after. I play platfomers all the time. Sure it's kind of rare, but gameplay wise there's not much new now. I still don't get it. Did I just miss the boat? Or do I need to get further before it really kicks in?
