Why I have givin up on FPS games.

I've noticed something as of late. I am pretty good at FPS games. Not to be conceited, but I notice that I tend to shoot a lot of people in the face. I'm kind of proud of this.
But then shit like this happens.... Let me explain a situation...

Eric is running through the streets in call of duty 4 with a shot gun, I am coming down from the other side of the street with a rifle. Eric sees me, blind fires over and over again with his pump action POS while i steady and take aim at his sorry face. WHY, in the name of whatever god you believe in, do I DIE!? It seems that the problem that you get with fighter games (where a button masher can kick a pros ass) is starting to come over to FPS games. You can play a game for god knows how long and still, at the end of the day, get killed by some grenade that some twelve year old threw in the very beginning of the match. Or get shot with a rocket launcher, where in real life you reserve those for TANKS!!! not human beings who just want to live to see another day so they can feed their poor children and skinny ass wife back in the states.

Something I have just noticed lately. The pull of the FPS shooter has started to wear off. I am noticing that i will never be as good as i want to be because everyone and their mom cheats and i am sick of it. And if I am playing a game where i get killed constantly rather than dealing out any damage at all, you all know the effect that has on me... I piss my pants in anger. I am done forever. I want to play Starcraft for the rest of my life.

Thats my slice of life,
Travis

>__> the problem I had with Halo 2
when I played online.
It just starting revealing itself as a waste of time. Its like you can be over 300 yards away and a shotgun could still kill you? Impossible when the shells spread out but bleh, shooter games are getting too crazy.

This seems totally out of character for you. You're good at first person shooters, so you should know that if your standing out in the open, you're going to get shot and die, no matter what you are being shot with, eventually it's going to hit you.

It seems like more and more first person shooters are forcing you to use cover nowadays, and why shouldn't they? I hated games like Half Life Deathmatch where there was almost no cover on the maps, and players would just take turns shooting each other with whatever gun they had equipped.

I don't know man, I respect your opinion and I can see why your frustrated, but I think first person shooters have gotten better, not worse.

I totally agree on most of your points dude. Most of the time the sniper of a team in any team can rape and just sit back.

But if you are actually rushing its hard. Nades getting thrown at you, new enemies respawning out of no where. But you gotta do. Someone has to teach the nubs who is boss.

Someones gotta do it.
Why not you Travis?
=)

Im,probably,wasting,my,time,since,you,seem,to,only,play,console,shooters.

If,you,want,an,extreamly,skill,based,and,team,based,shooter,for,free,download,Wolfenstein:Enemy,Territory.

5,years,old,and,still,millions,of,people,play,it.

Im,warning,you,though...once,you,get,good,with,a,mouse,youll,never,want,to,play,another,shooter,on,a,console...

I hear ya on this. Part of the problem is the tendency for developers to "equalize" the game by using things like cone of fire (which is why your bullet didn't fire straight at Eric).

The problem with the equalization is that you get fucked in situations like that just to make the other player feel good about himself. I guess the only thing to do is try harder or just stop.

Other thing is that you can't really avoid cheaters with consoles, unless you're just playing with friends. On PC you can find a few great communities that crack down on cheaters.

Anyway, try to keep the faith and keep erasing faces!

I'm hoping you will still play Left 4 Dead, and don't give up on FPS games just because of multiplayer, there are great games like Half-life that's story is just as good, without those hackers or random lucky n00bs.

Sorry but i cant agree. games like Cod4 make themselves accessible where everyone can get a kill, but its still always been for me at least, the Pro may die but 9 times out of 10 he will win the match in the end.

maybe you need to chillax?

It's why I don't play online. I can't stand the little pricks who think they can kick ass in real life. The odds are that they can hold a gun for fear of dropping it and getting their nuts blown off. I only play an FPS by myself, because then I am in control.

That's the thing about FPSes, you can't play too many of them too much or else you get tired of them so fast. I play Cod4 casually, maybe two hours combined a week, and I find the appeal to be still there.

You should try out Red Orchestra on the PC.

It is the only realistic shooter that I know about currently.
