2008 So Far - The ones that slipped by...

So on Sunday we recorded our Top 5 Games of the Year so far. Nick will have the episode up soon, so check it out if you are curious about those. Aside from the games that I picked up earlier this year but need to play more of, there are a few other games that came out in 2008 that I feel I missed out on.

Most of these games I'm just waiting on the price to drop and/or the time to play. Here is a list of 5 of the games I am most curious about but have yet to purchase. Leave a comment if you have an opinion on any of these games, as you may help me decide which to pick up.

Audiosurf - I've heard so many good things about this game. I really really would love this on XBLA. What is that Steam thing everyone keeps talking about? :( God my laptop is teh suck; I doubt I could even run this game.

Burnout Paradise
- Burnout 3 is my favorite racing game ever, and among my favorite games of all time. The premise of the open world really turned me off from getting this entry, but the price is low now. I think I'll be picking this one up soon.

Civilization Revolution - This is a series I know I will adore once I get past the steep barrier of entry. Apparently history was a major part of my education, so I should be really get into all that crap. I know this is the streamlined Civilization game to get me in to the series once and for all, so I need to pick this up. Just waiting for a price drop.

Rainbow Six Vegas 2 - I love a good multiplayer shooter, but sadly, I never play them. I've always felt that if I don't have to time to get really really good, then I shouldn't even bother playing. But that's multiplayer. RSV2 has online co-op through the story mode, and I definitely want to try it out. Again, just waiting for a price drop.

Wipeout Pulse
- I'm not the biggest Wipeout fan in the world, but I hear this is probably the best Wipeout game since XL. I hear the game lets you use your custom soundtracks and that the track even reacts to the music. I also like how the music distorts during jumps. This just seems like the perfect racing game for the PSP, so I'll pick this up when I can find it for 20 dollars or less.

Again, what are your opinions on these games? And which are the games that came out this year that you feel like you missed out on?

Audiosurf is pretty awesome, but if i remember correctly there is a demo for it on steam. Just download steam and and see if it will work.

Burnout Paradise is pretty awesome, the open world is a bad and a good thing, it is pretty annoying to crash right into a random car when you are just about to win the race. If you buy it for the PS3, Id be happy to race you online.

I would have typed more but this keyboard really sucks.

Not a bad list of games. They're all good in their own right. I'll leave my opinions on each of them though.

Audiosurf - I haven't seen a lot on this game, but from what I have seen it looks like a great take on rhythmic games. Stands out easily and looks like a great combo between Guitar Hero and F-Zero/Wipeout. And yes, a XBLA/PSN version would be a great idea. Audiosurf+?

Burnout Paradise - I was reluctant about the game being open ended as well, but from the demo I had a good time. The controls are much different from past Burnout games so that need a bit of time getting used to, but once they are they're a blast. F*cking up your vehicle has never been more enjoyable. Plus, with all the updates and new content, now's a great time to get it.

Civilization Revolution - Again, I don't know a lot about this game (Or even the series) but from the reviews and watching others on jtv play it looks like a solid console RTS.

Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 - from your post it seems you're more interested in the co-op side of R6:V2. Well I think it's fair to warn you that compared to R6:V the co-op's been gimped. That and the overall game is almost the same as R6:V. Thats not to say R6:V2 is broken, far from it. Just saying you could go for the former and get it for even cheaper. But hey, your decision.

Wipeout Pulse - Undeniably one of my favourite PSP games ever. True it doesn have the same impact as Pure did, but it is the better game what with a host of new additions, from the single player structure to the 8 player online. If you want an addictive, challenging racer for the PSP, this should be your first choice. However... I'd hold off for Wipeout HD. W:HD is going to be taking the best from both Pure and Pulse. And seriously, the graphic's in this game are a purchasing point. It's absolutely beautiful for a PSN game. Of course that's only if you want a Wipeout racing game. If you simply want one to take around with you then by all means get Pulse. But from the looks of how W:HD is shaping up to be, I'd consider getting that as well.

Well, there's my opinions on all of them. Like I said, they're all good games so you won't really be lose anything by renting/buying them. Just hope you enjoy whatever you get.

P.S. Wipeout HD is the one with Zone tracks that react to the music, not Pulse.

Audiosurf is a very fun and addicting game, I strongly recommend it.

Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 is pretty good and easy to get into, and I agree with the comment made by thecosmicfly.

As for the other games on your list, I can't comment on them as I have not played them myself.

Audiosurf is amazing. You put in a calm song, you get a relaxing experience with awesome scenery to boot. You choose a fast song, you get a tense, challenging experience.

It's definitely one of my favourites and I highly recommend it.
