The Batman News I Have Been Dying For...

Thank you so much Cosmicfly for pointing this out to me. While I have been keeping my eyes peeled for a Dark Knight game from Pandemic, Eidos totally flanked me with their announcement of a brand new Batman game that looks to be something much more exciting. The cover story for september issue of Gameinformer introduces "Batman: Arkham Asylum", a dark story surrounding Batman and all of his most infamous rivals including the Joker, Harley Quinn, Scarecrow, Riddler, Poison Ivy and more. The game is in development by Rocksteady Studios who's is known best for their game "Urban Chaos" and set to hit store shelves sometime in 2009.

I haven't gotten my hands on an issue of the magazine yet but some unconfirmed details have been posted onto a NeoGaf thread. None of the following has been confirmed but I wouldn't be surprised to find this information in the magazine later this month:

- Developer: Rocksteady Studios
- Publisher: Eidos
- Platforms: PS3, Xbox 360, and PC
- The game is set in Arkham Asylum and will focus on making the world a dark, gritty "Riddick like" experience.
- The story is being pinned by Paul Dini who wrote Batman The Animated Series.
- Game will run on Unreal Engine 3
- Game will play through an over the shoulder perpective
- Allies will include commisioner Gordon and your radio contact throughout the game will be Barbara Gordon

For all the "Unconfirmed" details, check out the post at NeoGaf here: NeoGaf Thread

You can expect to hear a lot from me about this new title in the coming months. If you check out Rocksteady's Website you will see a 10 digit counter that looks to be counting down to some kind of announcement or possibly the release of the game. It looks to be a long wait for the game but i'm already excited.

Thank You Joystiq!

Ahh, yay, thanks for reporting this.

I agree, I don't mind so much waiting for it as long as they actually make it an exceptional game. I don't know much about Rocksteady Studios though, hope they're ready to take this on.

Kind of not what I was expecting. But, it does give you some hope. It isn't exactly a movie game and seems to take the universe that a lot of Batman fans love. I hope they do a good job.

I don't get something though, its set in Arkam Assylum, so what exactly do we do in there? try to recapture all the baddies???

But I will be keeping my eyes peeled on this.

The game will take place on the island that houses Arkham Asylum and I suppose the goal is too put a stop to the villians that have escaped.

The report suggested that The Asylum houses some kind of secret that the Joker is after.

And to Punchdrunk.... This is not the Dark Knight game that has been rumored by Pandemic. As far as we know, that game is still being developed and will be announced at a later time.

Setting it in Arkham just means Urban Chaos just got a sequel. I want some rooftop scenes like half of the Dark Knight takes place. Actually the open world Dark Knight might be a good idea but they won't put nearly as much effort into it as they should.
