I don't think gaming will ever be the same. All people want now are shooters and rhythm games. The casual is taking its toll on the gaming industry and I think shooters will prevail, which is sad for other games such as Bionic Commando, Mad World, and maybe even Bayonetta will have the same fate.
I didn't care much about Terminator Salvation, since the movie was enough. Bionic Commando, on the other hand had some interesting stuff that caught my attention, like the in-game music. I really hope that Bayonetta doesn't face the same fate as those 2 games, but the odds are that it might be overlooked.
Bayonetta will be leagues better than Bionic Commando so it'll most likely sell more. Terminator won out I guess due to advertising and branding... I guess people are more likely to buy any old crap if it has that attached.
dispicable. Just goes to show you that people are idiots. "oooh remember terminator? lets buy that, not some stupid commando game" ..... thats why the industry fails
Because bionic commando was terrible and terminator was probably also bought by some film buffs.
If im also an "idiot" than so be it. But bionic commando was terrible in my opinion.
Hype backlash? I rarely read reviews or peoples opinions on games and take any of the information to heart. The majority of the time my opinion on a game is in no way directly or indirectly affected by these factors.
I Hate to be a heel here, and give reasons why people arent buying some of these recently released games but I might as well take the heat and give my personal reason.
Quick and Inevitable price drops...some of these games just arent worth full price, bottom line. I sometimes feel downright irresponsible dropping $65 on a game I know will be half that price if I patiently wait 6 weeks at most. Also following the recent trend, most games have been dropping in price like anvils within a month of release. I bought GTA:China Town Wars for half price two weeks after it released, Mad World for $26 a month after release and hell, just bought Red Faction Guerilla for $40 2 hours ago off newegg...what? a week and a half after release.
At this point for me, its just being a smart consumer not buying this stuff at release. Am I contributing to the fall of gaming and all thats wrong with the industry? ...maybe... But I dont have an unlimited cash supply to support every developer and a product I may be mildly interested in by buying it right away at full retail price.
It may not be a popular opinion, but can you really fault me for it?
@Adam_Lazzara: You shouldn't be faulted for that. Consumers will buy a game when they feel it is worth it to them, as you said.
Also, did anyone really believe the rebirth of a old franchise, that received average reviews, would sell more than a movie license game?
Sure you can point out the sales of Rearmed but look how well received that game was. Plus it is a 10 dollar downloadable game verses a 60 dollar retail release.
You can't just look at a sales number and make a conjecture about it. There is other information that affects a game release.
Well I have Biotic Commando and I love it, I rented Terminator Salvation and didn't like it for some odd reason. Now I heared people tell me "you have to get more into the game if you want to see its potential", I went pretty far into Terminator Salvation and I just don't see the big deal.
Now for you who say Biotic Commando sucked, I'm not going to argue with you , but Biotic Commando in my opinion pushes the swinging method to another level, better than the Spiderman swinging method....Just saying
And I already Pre-Ordered Bayonetta, Ive been waiting soo long for it to release and it releases Nov. 30!!! Only a couple months away!
I just think Bionic Commando had too many things going against it. The nostalgia factor wasn't as strong as they would have hoped. Clearly Bionic Commando:Rearmed didn't hype this game up as much as they intended. Also, BC:rearmed got significantly BETTER reviews than the new BC(and in my opinion, is a better game), which I guess also was a factor. If you already got your nostalgia fix by playing BC:rearmed, and that game is supposedly superior to the new BC, then why even bother? It was also a dumb move to only release the BC demo on XBL and not PSN. I hate this exclusivity bullshit in multiplatform titles. Exclusive demos, dlc, characters. It's awful.
Also, "terminator" has some insane brand recognition going for it. It's almost like Star Wars or Lord Of The Rings. If you put any of those titles on a cover then people will buy that shit up regardless of what halfassed piece of junk game is on the disc or how shitty the reviews were.
I really don't think the same will happen to Bayonetta though. I feel like Bayonetta has created a LOT more pre-release buzz than both Bionic Commando and Mad World ever did. But I could be wrong.
Wouldnt start a war of words with the blogs owner. Maybe he is right in calling you an idiot.
Anywho If they lower the price of Bionic Commando to 19.99 then we Will see sales like Valkyria. I think only the top franchises should warrant the 60 dollar tag. You would think that game developers would wise up and charge about 30 for their games because the market is saturated with mediocrity. I know if I was looking on the shelf between Prototype and Bionic commando and prototype was 30 bucks and commando was 60, Im picking prototype.
@Antonio: I may be wrong, but im not sure if Brad even did purchase the game. I watched him play it some of it on the feed, but I believe David was hyped for it and bought the copy...and felt he got his moneys worth. Not that it really matters, but its probably not a case of Brad trying to justify his spent money. If he genuinely liked the game then its that simple...
But im glad so many people are on the same page about buying games when they feel the game has dropped to a low enough price to be deemed worthy. Once again, I don't have an unlimited cash supply so I take sites like gamerankings and metacritics averages quite seriously. I could try a service like gamefly or something to try out games, but its just easier to weed out potential bombs with a professional review average.
You realize most people are buying Terminator Salvation most likely because of the easy achievements and trophies? 12 gold trophies and a platinum just for a single playthrough? What a joke.
I know a friend that is actually getting it just for that reason alone..
Probably a reason why it sold more is because achievements are hella easy for terminator, easy 1000 points and there are alota achievement whores out there.
A huge chunk of the people who buys games usually don't know much about games except from trailers and well maybe posters? So try to look at it from those people's view. Which game looks for fun and action paced and awesome? Bionic Commando or Terminator Salvation? And probably some of them have seen the Salvation movie and enjoyed all the action and such thinking they will get the same in the game.

Both games are terrible
Bionic commando is in the 60's on metacritic and terminator even lower. At least terminator was advertised.
No, it's not a terrible game Antonio.
It's been a victim of hype backlash, much like Mirror's Edge.
And you're an idiot Antonio.

Bionic Commando gave more views on how to show more of a open world and showing what you can do with the arm in a creative way.
Terminator was just crap like other movie games. But yeah terminator was advertised more.

I fear for the future of the gaming industry as a whole.

Well I played Bionic Commando for half an hour at my friends, and I just didn't like it that much

ive never played either of those games but i am looking forward to Bayonetta, looks awsome.
Trying to justify your purchase Brad, I don't blame you for defending it

Antonio...you're a retard.
This really shows the power of advertising...

Might want to read that
