Tekken 6 and pretty CG.
This was the video I was trying to get downloaded from the XBL/PSN marketplaces last night, but apparently they took it down.
Does this video excite me? No. I could care less about the story. But I guess this exists to get more casual players interested in the game. Really there is no amount of cg or gameplay footage they could show me (at least they way they present it) that would interest me in the least. I know what Tekken 6 is. There are no secrets here like in other games. There is no unknown. In fact, the game has been out for a year and a half in arcades. So what could they do?
Namco should host an event where some of the best people in the world are invited to play the game. They should take footage from some of the closest, and perhaps flashiest, matches and send out high quality videos of them to all the blogs and sites. It's ballsy sure, but it actually shows Tekken as what it is, a deep fighting game.

I'm pretty sure just about everyone knows that Tekken is my favorite fighting game franchise. Does this video excite me? Hell yes. I would love for Tekken to have more pretty CG and story elements, I think if any fighting series can actually pull off story integration it's Tekken. This is really just icing on the cake.
Obviously the main aspect of Tekken is the actual fighting and if the new systems they introduce to combat mess that up then all of this will have been for naught.
I do think that the idea of hosting an event to show Tekken's depth in combat is a good idea, however people who are really interested in the game already know about it's depth and have probably seen videos from arcades. I may be missing something here, this may act as a new draw for players but I feel that the current form of advertising Namco is employing works quite well for that purpose already.
Couldn't hurt to do both though, I wouldn't mind seeing such an event.
i'd have to agree, seeing the pro's in their element would be amazing especially in HD, and of course it would draw new players, seeing the capabilities of each character in the hands of a pro will most likely ignite that competitive spirit that dwells in most of the fighting game players to get out there and find even more possibilities.
Seeing a pro Tekken match, might actually inspire me to give a crap about the series (or any fighting game, for that matter)
Looks like there will be more of a story line this time, but eh. I'm not into fighting games.
