Well in this case, this wouldn't be the only reason this game is amazing.

Anyone remember this simple gem of a game? The best interpretation of a sim game that I have ever seen? ... Holy god, whoever was playing this screen shot had a lot of money.
Anyways, This is Roller Coaster Tycoon.
1999 by Hasbro, this game was a many things for me. My first Sim game, my first PC game, my first act of spending countless hours at the computer. This game did it all for me.
Why you might ask?
Because its fucking good. Thats all you need to know.
-Travis
P.S.
This game is the first game that I know of, outside of Sid Meiers games, that was as in depth as you could possibly get. From setting prices to every attraction, setting the type of music played at various rides, which type of advertisements you would like to run for your park, or even how you wanted to build your roller coaster...
Ok, I will say that last part again for I know we take it for granted.
How you wanted to build your roller coaster.
This may seem like a small little attraction, but it is by far so much more.
This truly gave you the option to create whatever you wanted, to the most intense roller coaster you could ever dream of, to the hellish crash coaster you send poor, mindless civilians on.
You were, and still are, able to create whatever your mind wanted to create with these coasters.
Oh, and it is a sim game.
In all honesty, that doesn't seem great.
This game made it great.
I have already spent countless hours deciding the layout of my park, the theme, the prices.
This game has stolen my life yet again.
P.S.S
The game starts off with the simple choose a scenario. Each scenario is basically the same, just varying in difficulty. The normal layout being: Meet X amount of guests with X amount of satisfaction by this date.
Simple.
Not really.
To have guests come to your park requires you to craft a park layout which is appealing to the guests. Simple things as having an information booth near the entrance or near the back can vary how satisfied people are with your park... which decides how many people hear about your park... which decides how many people come to your park. While the possibilities are endless on how you can create your park, to achieve the goals that are required of you does take some strategy. Such as having one of the more exciting coasters near the front of the park to "thrill" your guests as they walk through the entrance. Deciding whether or not to take out a loan to create your "masterpiece" coaster with which you will advertise and bring more people to your park. Understanding the value of a dollar. Whether or not your entrance should be expensive and your rides free, or vice versa. These things and many more can decide how well you do at creating your own park.
Now customer satisfaction.
Guests puke, they get hungry, they get bored, they get angry, they vandalize. Oh, and they can die.
All of these are unwanted things, some of them are unavoidable.
The goal being, as the master of your domain, you will want to cut these reaction to the smallest amount possible. This will raise satisfaction and assure you a victory.
Some of these can be fixed by hiring employees, these being guards, handymen, mechanics and entertainers.
Others require you to have a well thought out park that is not only appealing to the eye, but gives the guest many things to do without having to think to hard.
Trust me, they refuse to think too hard.
P.S.S.S
If you decide they are not thinking hard enough... then the fun begins.
It is very possible to create a torture land.
Imagine this.... French fries are free... everyone buys them.
Drinks... are 50 dollars a pop.
So after riding a roller coaster, to settle their stomach they decide to get a drink. Too bad ass hold, you spent all your money entering the park.
Here are some fries.
Oh you are angry?
Well i created this pit of death which you can never climb out of. Or if that isn't to your liking, here is this roller coaster that has an exit located above water... no walkway.
You can't swim? Oh thats too bad.
Well here is this roller coaster that flys off into a cliff.
Now choose bitch!!!!
This is my life.

Definitely one of my favorite games. I remember playing all the time. The expansion packs and sequels were great as well.
I think that screenshot is from RCT2, which I own and love. That game was hard as fuck, though. I usually played the maps that had infinite money, since they were a lot easier. And yes, I loved to kill people. Like putting them all in a pit and then raising the water, killing them all.
I also loved to kill my hired entertainers who were in Gorilla suits.
I miss this game, I feel like playing it now.
This game was fantastic, I loved this game. I remember playing it with my sister when we were younger, we got it about free about a month after it came out as we got it with our new computer.
I agree, it was so detailed, that is probably why I got addicted to it. The graphics weren't that bad either so your custom created wooden rollercoaster didn't look like complete crap.
I bought RCT2 and 3 but for some reason they weren't as good, maybe I loved this one so much as it was the first PC game I played loads, (before I went on to Football Manager series.)
Also, Shiloh, the screenshot is from RCT1, i'm sure that it's the scenario called Forest Frontiers.
This game was really hard to get used to but after beating the crap outta your cousin for suggeting to buy this game. This game was one of my favorite games ever for pc I mean making people puke and over pricing everything I spent at least 20+ hours playing this and all of its expansions
HAHA i still have this game! :) I remember i used to listen to Blink 182 - Take off your pants and jacket Album last time i played this lol. I remember when i got bored i'd torture the visitors buy dropping them in water. xD
I never really played this game. however another sim game that was also fun was the zo tycoon game.
Especially as you could build exhibits full of dinosaurs, then wait till you have many guests, and then block the entrance to the zoo and delete all the fences and let the good times role
Man, I loved playing RCT when I was young.
My friend had the game and it was disturbing the amount of evil things we would do to those people.
A few years ago I saw RCT2 being given out in cereal boxes.
So I grabbed a box and own RCT2 myself.
I think I just might play it for myself now.
Oh... around the time when the PS2 was just released, I saw a game for PS1 called Sim Theme Park, thinking it was similar to RCT.
Boy, what a disappointing pile of shit that was...
Oh god, I loved the Rollercoaster Tycoon games, especially the 2D ones, the 3D was alright, but it doesn't compare to the awesomeness of the 2D ones.
Oh yes, Chris Sawyer is awesome. Transport Tycoon is my personal favourite, god that was a great game.
Make a roller coaster with a nice little ramp at the end, then increase the speed of the coaster so it flies off the end. Everyone on the coaster dies, and everyone it lands on dies. It's great.
I only played once. I made some coaster that I thought was kinda cool, but I guess I planned it wrong and when people tried to get off the ride, they got stuck? And I didn't know how to fix it so I had some hundreds of people stuck in one little square and I was like "FUCK THIS GAME, I SPENT TWO HOURS ON THIS COASTER AND DON'T KNOW HOW TO FIX IT> AUUFHSK!"
I was like 10. Anyway. I gave up and went back to some dinosaur park tycoon thing I had.

Haha, this game is the definition of fun. I remember cutting out tostino's serial numbers and mailing them in to get a copy of this bad boy. Byfar the most fun i have ever had on the PC
Fun Fact: Did You Know!!!!
This game was ported to the Xbox, yes the xbox, and i bought it hahaha Its amazing to bring back old memories, and its still fun after 10 years
Goddamn, I remember and loved that game; In fact, I think I started playing my brother's file designing coasters.
Heh heh heh. Good times. I'mma go find my copy, now.
On every level after I won, I would drown every person in my park....and it never got old.
Oh god! so much nostalgia! I remember playing this tons as a kid. It was one of my favorite games as a kid (next to that lego island game for the pc). I remember I made a roller coaster that went so fast that the car would fly off the tracks and crash somewhere off screen and if anyone would try and leave my park, I would just throw em into a pool of water. Ahhhh, good times, good times, gotta find that game again!
Oh yes!!! I love this series to much, along with the Zoo Tycoon series. I recently bought Zoo Tycoon and it's expansions for 6 dollars. I looked for Roller Coaster Tycoon, but it wasn't there ;_;.
Soon, I will get you, RCT, soon.
Yup good game, but i never got serious in building a good theme park. I would try, but minutes later I would start making the best death park instead. That truly provided me hours of entertainment *gives off a sadistic laugh* mwahahaha.
*Has mega Nostalgia flashback*
RCT, how I loved thee. When I was younger I had such a blast playing that game. Going to a themepark was always a great experience as a child, so being able to create your own and become a God of one was like ecstasy. When I play most games with a choice or with responsabilities I'm the sort of player that likes to keep everyone as happy as possible. Was a bitch trying to stop kids being sad. Send in the men in the funny costumes I did, but to no avail. Stupid puking brats. >.<
Travis sure is the master of torturing though. Damn thats some creative stuff. Y'know, as much as people bash on Sim games for not being exciting and tedious, they obviously never had the pleasure to screw their characters over. Who hasn't taken away the pool ladders/created a 1 cubic foot 4 walled box and fast foward time just to see the Grim Reaper come round to visit? Basic stuff to anyone who's played the games, but there are vast more sadistic oppotunities to take advantage of. Muahaha.
I've been trying to find this game to play for FOREVER. I had it when I was in middle school and it was so much fun! I want the original; not the RCT3 crap. I remember the day I discovered that the roller coasters could malfunction and crash. I actually have it on video tape somewhere because my cousin was recording a school project while I was playing and you can hear me scream "OH MY GOD!" when my coaster flew off the rails. Then I remember the day when I found out you could MAKE the roller coasters crash... Oh, the memories.
this is probably my favorite game from childhood.
