This is why I am incredibly frustrated with the way this industry is headed. Take "Star Wars: The Force Unleashed", a game that was just released to a number of decent reviews and incredible sales in the first few weeks. I picked up the game. I played through the game from beginning to end. I enjoyed it for what it was, a glorified "hack n slash" title remeniscent of "God of War" but set in the Star Wars universe. The game did a magnificent job of tying the 2 trilogies together and left me satisfied overall by the end of the game. Expect my full review soon.
So here we are 2 weeks later. I am gearing up for my next big fall release and all of a sudden, Lucas Arts hits me over the head from behind with something big and heavy. Yes folks, the game will be extended soon with the addition of DLC that includes the ability to play through the game as Luke Skywalker, Obi Wan Kenobi, Ki-Adi-Mundi, and Kit Fisto as well as an additional plotline to play through. Why the hell can't this content be included in the final retail copy of the game??!! I don't want to download it, I want to have it on my disc so I can play it on any system I pop it into!
This problem also relates to the recent announcement that Fable 2 will not include online co-op at launch but will instead add it through a patch within the first week of the games release! Now Lionhead is saying that the patch might be released on launch day!!!! Dammit Molyneux!!! Just delay the game a week or two and get that damn feature on the disc!!!! I beg of you! But of course, they can't do that because the game has already gone gold and is in the final stages of preparation for launch. Another game to fall victim to this trend is Little Big Planet which will not include online cooperative level editor at launch. This is just getting too frustrating for me to handle. I need to go punch something.

little big planet is nothing without online cooperative level creation at launch
I would be surprise, but it's Lucas compagnie after all...why wouldn't they just mess up with us the fan. They did it in the movie.
My reply to the Star Wars part is simply this: MONEY They all want more money, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but at the same time I think we all feel like we are getting cheated out of what we should already have, for that I agree w/ you. It could've been on the disc, but the companies want more money, and we as gamers, will end up buying it anyway which lets the companies get away with it.
For the Fable 2 and LBP I would just have to say its laziness on their part, they could both have delayed the game a week or so like you said and get the game ready in a full version.

i glad to see someone else hates it when DLC is released shortly after launch. Surely they must of thought about what ever they are releasing and it makes me wonder if it was meant to be shipped with the game and they just thought they would take it out and makes us pay more for it. Im all for DLC like shivering isles for example which was released alot later after release but this seems to happen alot now with like SC4 having stuff on the disc that has to be paided to unlock i just hope it doesnt catch on
No Mace Windu... really??? I never really understood why developers feel the need to just stop putting content on the game's disc and started to charge for things that should just be included in the game. Especially with Fable 2's lack of co-op, since Molyneux said himself that the game was completed back at E3 and went gold days before the news broke.
It especially sucks for someone like me who could barely afford the core system let alone a hard drive!
hmmm
That is dirty and underhanded
Remember the good old days when unlockable characters and items were packaged inside the game, and they didn't have to be purchased seperately? Honestly, DLC should be used only as a gateway for developers to expand on their game with bigger and more exciting features/levels, not as an opportunity to charge $5 for a shitty costume. At least patches don't cost you money, but it's still pretty poor releasing your prodcut and saying, "Oh fuck it, we couldn't finish it now so we'll do it later." A lot of good has come out of this gen, but there's still a hefty amount of bad, and DLC like this is one of them.
