So the game may look crazy and complicated, especially the combos; but I assure you that combos in BlazBlue (much like Guilty Gear) are much easier to have fun with and pull off at entry level play. Stringing shit together in Street Fighter is way harder than it ever should be, but GG and BB seem to reward players by allowing combos with much less strict timing. Don't worry though, there is plenty of high level comboing potential to be had by all.
I just don't get why Street Fighter gets all the hype when there are plenty of other fighting games with much more inspired character and fighting style design choice, yet still manage to be just as balanced or more balanced than Street Fighter at high level play. The fighting styles in BlazBlue might seem tame right now by Guilty Gear standards, but keep in mind that this is the first game in the series and that many of the crazier characters came in the Guilty Gear sequels.
Have fun with Rufus. I'll most likely be playing Litchi or Noel.

It looks, meh. It's like those old kind of games where the character moves 3 times per second, but with mden day graphics.
Don’t worry Brad, I’ll be buying BlazBlue when it comes out here. I like the look of the game and can’t wait to get my hands on it. Hopefully the online will be pretty good. Now I just have to figure out which character I like the most so I can main him/her.
What's your problem, Brad? Does the success of the series that has done more for fighting games' creation and evolution than any other bother you so much? A lot of people legitimately love how Street Fighter plays, and openly prefer it and its characters to other fighters. Street Fighter has, and deserves, more fans than other games, largely because it's a treasured series with tremendously loved characters. The fighting in it IS pretty hardcore, and the combos are difficult to pull off, but none of it is impossible, and the added difficulty keeps people from spamming the combo crap that was shown in that video.
I'm glad that you want games to have easier combo systems and more relaxed demands on the player, but that's no reason to hate on people who prefer a steeper challenge. I find Street Fighter IV to be the most enjoyable fighting game I've ever played, and that's strictly on the merits of it's unique combat system and visual style. There's tremendous depth inherent in the game, and, frankly, it deserves the praise being lauded on it.
All of that said, your opinions are you own, and this, of course, is a site run by you, so I have no particular say in anything. I just ask, if at all possible, that you lighten up a bit on the Street Fighter bashing. A little less hate would be tremendously appreciated.
I liked Guilty Gear so i'm willing to give BlazBlue a shot. I liked what I saw in the gameplay videos alot.
It's still big in Japan as usual... I wonder if this might shine some hope for the U.S, but I doubt that BlazBlue would be played even less than Street Fighter 4. IMO, the reason why because SF4 has that casual feel for any player that has little to no experience. Every thing about SFIV seems to be "easier" than the other versions in my opinion.
SFIV's combo system is pretty "meh" in my opinion, since most people tend to use every special and just whore it to death. BlazBlue's combo system is pretty vital but balanced at the same time, so it makes it very interesting for some long ass combo chains.
Regardless, BlazBlue deserves its time before Tekken 6 actually comes out.
I don't know - when it comes to fighters, I tend to go more for this type of game, where the characters are 2D. Granted, I suck at all fighting games in existence, but I still love playing two of them despite that. One is Smash, and the other is Guilty Gear. I'm bad at the former, and I'm HORRENDOUS at the latter, but I still enjoy them. I simply don't have the knack for 3D fighters, which is why I never got into things like Tekken (though lord knows why I keep thinking I'll like the next Soul Calibur game - maybe I've been brainwashed).
Guilty Gear is one of my favorite video game franchises, even though I'm incapable of knowing what I'm doing while I play. I just have fun with the whole feel of it, with the characters, moves, and so on. That being said, I was a little disgruntled when I first heard about BlazBlue coming in to replace it.
I'm used to Guilty Gear's cast of misfits - I don't want to switch. Sure, the creators of the games made some poor choices as of late, such as that Ninja Turtles style beat'em up, and that 3D hack & slash where you play as Sol, but aren't the old characters worth holding onto? Why start with an entirely new slate just because of that?
I don't know, I guess I'll check it out if it's ever released for the Wii. Otherwise, I'm sticking with Guilty Gear.
Oh - and another thing, in relation to Guilty Gear and BlazBlue's characters. I'm not sure what it is, but the GG crew just strikes me as the better one. Maybe it's because I'm more familiar with them or something, I don't know. Or maybe it's that for some reason, BlazBlue's characters so far just seem like carbon copies of cliche anime characters.
I mean, hell - Guilty Gear almost got a freaking movie! Does anyone else remember that trailer that came with GGXX for the PS2? MAN, that would have been great!
Damnit this Game looks awesome.
I can see myself using Ragna, Rachel, Noel and Arakune.
I'll be getting this if I manage to get an affordable PS3.
KOF XII Brad....KOF XII
Brad, it seems like you have a taken a personal bias against Street Fighter. I hear you talk about the boring character design, hard move execution, and these people who go buy and play the game for a week before trading it back in or whatever. I don't understand why you think this is a bad thing! If anything, this is hopefully proof to Capcom that the fighting game genre is still alive, and will continue to make games. Yeah, Street Fighter is probably on the more generic side of fighters, but that works for it. To be honest with you, the way you treat it sometimes it seems like you hate it just because it's more popular then other fighting games for the wrong reasons. I will buy BlazBlue, and I will buy KOF12. I like pretty much all fighting games, but I don't see what's wrong with what Street Fighter 4 is doing. But seriously Capcom, where the fuck is CVS3?
