One word I am tired of hearing is Post-Apocalyptic. After listening to people describe the premise of Fallout 3 for the last 6 months, I can officially say I'd be happy never hearing that word again. It's like people enjoy saying that word or something. Like they feel like smarter people by using that in their vocabulary. They seems so proud with how the word rolls off their tongue. How the listener hangs on every one of the six syllables. Please guys, let it go. Just say a world after a nuclear disaster. Either that or go with Neo-Tokyo.
No more of this post crap.
Thanks,
David

Understandable. There are so many games where the story takes place after the world has gone to hell that it's just become cliche.
Now a game where you're DODGING the apocalypse.... now THAT'S something new.
Think about it. Bullet-Timing out of the way of meteors.
That'd be awesome now that I really think about it.

I think it's mostly a matter of length rather than some form of vocabulary oriented elitism. Post-apocolyptic is simply easier to say than, "a world which is more or less what the people of the 1940s and 1950s thought things would be like in 2077, but which has suffered nuclear warfare." However, the latter is a much cooler description of the setting, and I am just now realizing how awesome the Fallout setting is.
david u seem to have opd obseesive post dissorder but seriously thats one of the bullet points on the box lol but still more vocab choices are welcome
....And I just realized I completely missed the point of the post. MY BAD.
so you don't want us to say post-apocalyptic?
kk gotcha
I'm sure everybody in post-apcolyptia is sick of the term post-apocalyptic as well.
I have no problems with the phrase. It doesn't make people sound smart, and if they think it does, fuck 'em.
but... it is post-apocalyptic... thats the word for it...
YOU CAN'T PLAY GOD DAVID
Well, when you think about it, there really aren't many (If any at all) alternative phrases to describing a setting like Fallout or any other game/film like it. tbh, it doesn't bother me much, but I can see why you don't enjoy it. It's like the word epic. Strong, powerful descriptive word, but so overused and even said out of context in some situations. Why people can't use other words like grand or majestic is beyond me.
P.S. Maybe 'the aftermath' would be a better alternative to 'post-apocalyptic'?
Post-ApocalypticPost-ApocalypticPost-ApocalypticPost-ApocalypticPost-ApocalypticPost-ApocalypticPost-Apocalyptic..... Don't be taking away my right to say it!
Um, okay, I wont say it. I always found Judgment Day a cool term for it, pardon my terminator reference. What ever floats your boat, and mine :3
David,
You need to lighten up. Post-Apocalypse is just another word. It doesn't make people want to sound smart. If you actually PLAYED Fallout 3 (Which I bet you haven't, right?) they use it inside of the game itself. So is the game trying to be 'smarter' than you?
What else are you going to call it? Nuclear Holocaust? If I call it that are you ALSO going to start flaming on people for trying to sound smart?
Get over it. Its a word. You've always been the pessimist with a narrow-minded view on video games, especially western. I think its more you're sick of people talking about how good Fallout 3 is... because you sir, are a hater.
