Podcast # 107 Tonight

Let me begin by thanking a dedicated listener for contributing some new iTunes art for the show! Our chatter/listener, Gabriel, known in chat as AznSenzati0n has designed and submitted the art that you see here in celebration of our recent iTunes success. So thanks so much to him and every other dedicated listener that has stuck with us for so long.

You may have noticed my recent absence and I apologize. My life in the past week has been incredibly hectic which prevented me from playing games, talking about them, or making any sort of contribution to the site this week. Now that this is all behind me, I am making some changes that will hopefully make my role on the site more predictable. I have a busy schedule and it is hard for me to post everyday; especially as I prepare myself to pursue a career in game journalism. I need to write articles so that's what I am going to do. I will make a post each week, letting our readers know what I'm writing and when they will be posted. Sorry if this annoys anyone, but I really need to get some writing samples under my belt. So here are my plans this week:

We missed a week with a full length show so I'm expecting a good show. You can also expect us to record our "top 5 Games that we fear may suffer from nostalgia" - we need a new title for this one... seriously. Anyways, it should be fun. Discussion Part III - The R Word

I clicked on a link that said Haggar Rape. The picture loaded and I laughed. But then I thought to myself, what is actually so funny about it? 

What is it about rape that we are allowed to laugh at?

From one human to another, I think it's worst thing you could do to someone, man or woman. Honestly I think it's worse than murder because the person has to continue living with the consequences. 

I don't know why this subject is so sensitive for me. I'm sure there are some of you who will read this and say loosen up. It's just a word. We're just joking.

But then does everyone who hears you know that you are joking? Are there people who think you are serious so they avoid you? Are there people who are younger and more impressionable? Are you making them think that it's ok? In these past discussions, I've talk about women and when they will be accepted in to a man's world such as video games. I think it's a same with words. But in this case, I'm worried that usage will make it commonplace and acceptable when it shouldn't be. 

To laugh is in a way to forgive. It takes something that is maybe not so favorable but when we're able to laugh at it, we're able to accept it and overcome it. I'm not trying to stop the usage of the word, but I would like people to understand the words they choose to use, what they mean and how it could effect others.

Birthday Wishes - Jamie Chung

Anyone going to watch the Dragon Ball Live Action Movie? I wasn't going to until...

I found out Jamie Chung is playing Chi Chi. If you're unfamiliar, she was on MTV's Real World San Diego. She's gotten some attention modeling swimsuits/underwear. Yeah everyone wants to focus on her body but for me, I'm attracted to the picture above. I think that is one of the most beautiful women I have ever seen. Her hair, eyes, neck line, half opened mouth with teeth showing. I am really blown away.

So first off, Happy 26th Birthday. I found out this yesterday when talking to my friend Joseph. Secondly, don't give up! You have to start somewhere. Keep fighting and you'll eventually put the Dragon Ball movie behind you.

Oh yeah, Time Warner Sucks Ass.

FUCK TIME WARNER!! HELP NOW BEFORE THEY GET YOUR CITY!!

This is a reality people. We have been broadcasting every... single... night... and have not missed a day in over 9 months. But this may change!!! Why? Becuase Time Warner is about to fuck us. Broadcasting from Austin is about to get way way more expensive.

Last week, Time Warner Cable announced Phase 2 of its new broadband pricing model, a tiered billing system that would charge internet users based on their monthly consumption. The company will soon begin metered pricing in four cities: Greensboro, NC; Austin and San Antonio, TX; and my current hometown, Rochester, NY.

Here's how Time Warner's new pricing model works. Each household chooses one of five cap levels, ranging from 5 GB/month to 100 GB/month. Pricing resembles that of cell phone plans: Those who use the most broadband pay the highest amount and those who exceed their allotment are charged a fee—in this case, $1 for every excess GB.

Time Warner has specifically targeted Austin because of our lack of options. The only other way to get internet around here is ATT DSL, which is not good enough for us. This doesn't just hurt our broadcasting though. I recently signed up for Netflix to use the instant streaming. I watch nearly a movie a day. Now what? I have to stop using Netflix?

What about downloadable games? Does this mean it isn't practical for people to download large game files like GTA: Lost and the Damned? What about Steam users? How is ON LIVE supposed to work in this future?

They are trying to keep the free spread of information from the people. The slippery slope has begun and the MAN will take away internet all together. We are entering dark times!

The Official Announcement

Back in February, I received an email from mrfabulous about a not too big, not too small convention in Maine. He asked if we'd be willing to attend. At the time it sounded nice, but travel all the way to Maine seemed a little impossible as it was out of the way. Also we're not exactly the most well known Podcast on the internet so we were worried as to how many people would actually know us.

But because fab had asked so nicely I asked a few of the guys to see if they were interested in going. Travis is up for anything so he was in and when I asked Mike, he replied with his usual, "Sounds Cool." An email was sent out to PortConMaine inquiring about the possibility of having us as guests.

I never expected it, but they responded quite positively and offered us a booth and time for a panel. Now all of a sudden we're traveling to Maine to do a panel. It's come to my attention that there will be a handful of you guys possibly making the trip as well.

The obvious thing we should have is a meet up. In addition, we're kind of up in the air as to what we're going to talk about during the panel. If any one wants to give suggestions on what might be interesting, maybe something Anime related since it is an Anime Convention. Also, I kind of volunteered myself to help out with the Video Game Room at PortCon. Maybe we could set up some sort of video game competition or get together to play games?

I mean we are traveling all the way to Maine, so I'm expecting to completely have a blast. So if you're going to be attending PortCon Maine June 18-21, let us know.
