Women I Gave My Heart To

They say you haven't really joined the human race until you've had your heart broken. From my experiences, I strongly believe that. Until you understand how it feels to lose someone romantically, I don't think you can understand more than half of the songs in the world. This is by no means an invitation to just go out there and haphazardly toss your heart around. But also don't be afraid to have your heart ripped out. It's part of life and as painful as it is, if you can find a way through it with a smile, you'll be better off than most.

I've got a big heart. I don't mean that I'm this humanitarian or some amazing great person. I'm a normal human with aspirations to do something more with myself. When I say I have a big heart I mean that I have a lot to give away. I've shared it with so many women, sometimes foolishly and without really thinking about it. Behind me lies a trail of discarded heart pieces given with the best intentions but used up just as quickly as I was willing to jump in to play hero.

I've reached a point in my life where I'm kind of in a comfortable spot. I'd like to be in a relationship but I realize that the way my life is running around trying to plan the next big thing, I don't really have the time for it. It's not fair to try to force a relationship into my schedule. But I like a good story and it's always nice to go back and look at fond memories from the past. It also helps you learn from your mistakes. Since I have some time in my current situation, I decided to go back and look back fondly on all the women I gave my heart to.

So I'll begin with some one who I never thought would have been my type. She was completely different than I would have imagined the person I would have ended up with. But I guess on the battlefield anything can happen. I ended up running into her a few times while I was sneaking around trying to stop the world from being destroyed again.

She was a gorgeous girl but I never knew if I could fully trust her. I should have known better when I found out that she had a love for motorcycles. Girls like that are trouble. Always in love with danger. When I met her, she was seeing this other guy who was totally wrong for her. The guy had this thing where he liked to hurt the girl he was seeing and in my opinion I think he was seeing someone else on the side, a dude. I don't know what she ever saw him but women are attracted to money, power, and ambition, so I'm guessing that was it. Whenever we met up she'd tell me about how she didn't like having to pretend to be someone else when she was with him. I eventually ended up confronting the guy. He didn't like it too much so I ended up having to kick his lightning ass. After that I finished up my objectives, saved her life numerous times in our escape, over came the world, and insurmountable odds only to find out that she was a spy for the Chinese the entire time. She used me to get away from the asshole Colonel and steal whatever she needed to steal, the legacy or whatever it was called.

It looks bad but hey whatever. Without her I would have never been able to over come so much and do what I did. Plus I got a promotion out of it. Thanks for the memories, Eva.

Love,
David

What's On My Plate?

Every week we sit down and talk for two hours about games. Half of that time we're talking about what we've been playing. I go into each week pretty ambitiously but by the end of the week there are tons of games that were moved from "ready to eat" to "save for leftovers."

I'm going to get better, so as a way to prove it I've decided to post my playlist for the week. I'll keep it short. No more than three games a week. I'm not saying there won't be a possibility of me playing some Rock Band or something, but three is a pretty good number to juggle.

Since there aren't any new releases this week it looks like I'll be looking to play some stuff I already have. I'll start by going back to Valkyria Chronicles. I've been dreading the Selvaria battle ever since I started the game. Brad talked it up so much that it's kind of built up to this daunting task I don't even know how to begin to face.

I'll play some more Trauma Center on the Wii. It had been a couple years since I picked that game up. Last time I got reaquainted with the controls. This time I should really be able to do some damage. Well, avoid damage to the patients I mean.

Finally, I think it'd time to start Stranger's Wrath. Nick's incredible new podcast is just around the corner and I'm the only one who has yet to start it. I've had everyone swear that it's hard and that I shouldn't rush it. I've always been one of those last minute kind of guys, so I guess here goes nothing.

So there you have it for this week. I'll have something new for each day of the week so keep checking back.

It Happens Every Year...

So in 2008, I became known for getting flack from David and Brad about playing and enjoying games like Turok and The Bourne Conspiracy... So what game is coming out in 2009 that will earn me the same kind of attention on the Podcast? I'm ashamed to admit it, but the game known only as "WET" re-emerged today after being dropped by Activision-Vivendi and is still slated for a 2009 release. I'm not sure who the new publisher is or if this game can be any good.... but I intend to find out. Move over Turok, WET is gonna be the source of my suffering this year. Let the jokes begin Brad. Bring it David.

Is it possible for Tomb Raider to ever be a big seller again?

And should we be okay if it isn't?

The original Tomb Raider was extremely important. Zelda in 3d, Prince of Persia in 3d, hell... most any action adventure game in 3d owes a great deal to the original Tomb Raider released back in 1996. I cannot imagine Team Ico even existing without the birth of this series.

The last three games in this franchise were all good, and Tomb Raider Anniversary is probably the best Tomb Raider game I have ever played. The problem with low sales is not quality. Yeah, this last game could have used a few more months of polish, but the game was still great. Better than any Prince of Persia game I have played, better than Uncharted, and even Mirror's Edge in certain areas. Tomb Raider can't be fairly compared to those games though.

The sad part of all this is that Tomb Raider really is, after 12 years, still a unique experience. 3d Zelda is probably the closest I get to the Tomb Raider experience these days, and those don't come around very often. Don't say Uncharted. Don't say Prince of Persia. Those games are nothing like Tomb Raider. If people know of any under-the-radar gems that can give me the sense of exploration and puzzle solving like in this series, please let me know.

And a personal note to Eric Lindstrom and Crystal Dynamics: You were right. Right about the two very different types of Tomb Raider fans. They made developing Tomb Raider games difficult and often contradictory. But guess what? The ones that both you and I really dislike deep down -- the ones who only want to run around shooting stuff with a big breasted woman... they don't care anymore. They have moved on to play Gears of War and now rely on internet porn for their personal needs. Start making the hardcore Tomb Raider that the true fans want. Make your own Tomb Raider Anniversary without all the bullshit. Make it long and difficult. Fuck the combat. Do Tomb Raider better than the original team did it back in '96. The mainstream has given up on the series, so it's time to give up on them. Bring respect back to this franchise, as it's the only way that this is going to work.

And to Eidos: Shut the fuck up and let them make the Tomb Raider game that needs to be made. That or sell the IP to a publisher that can. And quit putting the game out on every fucking console known to man. It never helps the reputation of a series.

As of now I could care less if Tomb Raider is never again a mainstream success. I'm just worried about the desperate lengths Eidos will go to try to revive the un-revivable.

Does anyone know November NPD sales for Tomb Raider: Underworld?

**Breaking News**

Nick traded in Alone in the Dark for Xbox 360 so he could buy Alone in the Dark: Inferno for PS3. Looks like there will be a whole lot more where that came from.
